Bramwell Tovey, in his third season as Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, leads the orchestra in Smetana's The Bartered Bride Overture and Three Dances and The Moldau, Tuesday, August 10, at 8 p.m. He is joined by MacArthur "genius" grant recipient, pianist Stephen Hough performing Brahms' towering First Piano Concerto.

A musician of striking versatility, Bramwell Tovey is acknowledged around the world for his artistic depth and his warm, charismatic personality on the podium. His career as a conductor is uniquely enhanced by his work as a composer and pianist, lending him a remarkable musical perspective. His tenures as music director with the Vancouver Symphony, Luxembourg Philharmonic and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras have been characterized by his expertise in operatic, choral, British and contemporary repertoire. In addition to his position with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Tovey continues as Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony, a post he has held since 2000. He
also continues as founding host and conductor of the New York Philharmonic's Summertime Classics series at Avery Fisher Hall.

Stephen Hough regularly appears with the major orchestras around the world. He is an exclusive Hyperion recording artist, and many of his catalogue of more than 40 CDs have garnered international prizes, including the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis, Diapason d'or, Monde de la musique, several Grammy nominations and eight Gramophone Awards, including "Record of the Year" in 1996 and 2003, and the Gramophone "Gold Disc" award in 2008, which named his complete Saint-Saëns Piano Concertos as the best recording of the past 30 years. Hough is also an avid writer and composer. In addition to scholarly and critically-acclaimed CD liner notes and articles for music publications, he has written for The Guardian, The Times, and was invited by the Telegraph Media Group in December 2008 to start a cultural blog.
