Juliette Binoche, James Brolin Join Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen in Chilean Miners Film THE 33

THE 33 continues to round out its ensemble cast, bringing the story of the 2010 collapsed Copiano mine to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Juliette Binoche, James Brolin, and have signed on to join Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen for the film. Binoche replaces Jennifer Lopez, who withdrew after re-enlisting on Fox's AMERICAN IDOL.

Kate Del Castillo, Lou Diamond Phillips, Mario Casas, Juan Pablo Raba, Tenoch Huerta, Jacob Vargas, Marco Trevino, Oscar Nunez and Alejandro Goic have also joined the cast.

The film follows "the unfolding saga of the trapped miners played out over three months in the media. In the beginning, it was not known whether the miners were even alive. It took 17 days before a note was sent to the surface that let rescuers and the world know that 33 men were still alive in the mine. Those men would be trapped for a total of 69 days and kept viewers glued to the televisions when drill bits kept breaking as rescuers tried to get through rock as deep as "twice the size of the Empire State building." The miners become instant celebrities in their country and for a short time around the world after they were rescued."

An accomplished actor, director and producer for nearly five decades, Brolin is well-known to audiences for his early television roles, including Dr. Steven Kiley on "Marcus Welby, M.D.," for which he earned an Emmy(R) and a Golden Globe Award, as well as for his role as Peter McDermott on the series "Hotel," which earned him severAl Golden Globe Award nominations. He also starred in the well-known Syndicated series "Pensacola: Wings of Gold" as Lt. Col. Bill Kelly and earned additional Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations for his role as Ronald Reagan in the mini-series "The Reagans." Brolin's more recent television work includes guest roles in NBC's Law & Order: SVU," "Psych" for USA Network and "Lost City Raiders" on Syfy.

Brolin's success has also extended to feature film, where his long list of hit credits includes "The Amityville Horror," "Capricorn One," Westworld," and "Gas Food Lodging," as well as the Oscar Award-winning "Traffic," "Catch Me If You Can," "A Guy Thing," "The Alibi" and "Last Chance Harvey." Brolin also directed and starred in the acclaimed 1997 independent film, "My Brother's War," which received a Hollywood Discovery Award for Best Feature Film from the Hollywood Film Festival.

"Castle" stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers, Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle, Penny Johnson Jerald as NYPD Captain Victoria Gates,TAMALA JONES as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, and Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan.

Binoche is well known worldwide for her roles in popular, award-winning films such as The English Patient (1996) and Chocolat (2000) as well as internationally successful arthouse films including Three Colors: Blue (1993) and Caché (2005). She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1997 for The English Patient.
