This Halloween weekend, two films competed for highest box office gross.

With $10,909,000 for the weekend, Jake Gyllenhaal's NIGHTCRAWLER has come out victorious over OUIJA, which accumulated $10,900,240.

"This is a photo-finish, a dead heat, this rarely happens," says box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "We'll see how this all shakes out. We're taking about a difference of less than $10,000 here, which is pretty remarkable."

Though the horror film OUIJA outsold NIGHTCRAWLER last weekend, the Gyllenhaal flick has received positive results from critics and audience members.

"They got the message out there that this was definitely a different and quirky role for Jake Gyllenhaal," says Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock. "Sometimes that backfires. But around Halloween, a film like this really has a chance."

Also earning high ticket sales were ST. VINCENT, starring Bill Murray, FURY, starring Brad Pitt, GONE GIRL, starring Ben Affleck, BOOK OF LIFE, and DRACULA UNTOLD.
