Disney Launches THE PRINCESS BRIDE Stage Musical Website

A new website has been launched for an upcoming stage version of the beloved family-friendly adventure/romance THE PRINCESS BRIDE offering fans the chance to be provided with updates on the new project's development as it plays out.

Of note, a stage adaptation of THE PRINCESS BRIDE had originally been announced back in 2006, set to feature a score by Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Adam Guettel and a book by two-time Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Goldman based on his own screenplay and novel of the same name.

Unfortunately, in early 2007, Goldman and Guettel abandoned the musical adaptation citing contract disputes according to reports at the time.

Subsequently, a 2011 staged reading of the original screenplay was presented by director Jason Reitman with much success, featuring a starry assortment of performers including Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, Patton Oswalt and original big screen players Cary Elwes, Fred Savage and director Rob Reiner.

No further information as to the creative team or time schedule for this new production is available at this time.

The official website presents the title of the project along with a newsletter sign-up option with the message, "Be among the first to receive news about the stage adaptation of THE PRINCESS BRIDE as it becomes available."

Visit the new website for THE PRINCESS BRIDE stage musical here.

Additionally, check out my extensive 2012 InDepth InterView with William Goldman largely centering around his recent stage adaptation of another of his classic screenplays, that for Stephen King's MISERY, available here.

So, would you enjoy seeing a stage version of one of the most enduring titles of the 1980s onstage sometime soon?
