Roots Handmade Pizza (1924 W Chicago Ave) will throw a "Roots, Rock, Reggae" party to celebrate Bob Marley's birthday starting at 8pm on Thursday, February 6.

"Roots, Rock, Reggae" was the No. 1 single off the Rastaman Vibration album by Bob Marley & The Wailers which was released on April 30, 1976. Roots co-owner Greg Mohr's favorite Bob Marley song is "Roots, Rock, Reggae" in part because he named "Roots" Handmade Pizza, he's a "Rock" Island, Illinois, native, and he loves "Reggae" music. Marley would have turned 69 years old on February 6.

Jamaican-themed drink specials during the "Roots, Rock, Reggae" party include $3 Red Stripe beers and $5 rum-based Planter's Punch cocktails.

Roots executive chef/partner Martin Arellano has created a Jamaican Jerk Shrimp Pizza for the "Roots, Rock, Reggae" party that also includes diced pineapple, pickled onions, pickled jalapeños, diced green bell peppers, and minced scallions. The 12" pizza will be $20 the day of the party.

Roots will also give away a $100 gift card for the patron dressed in the best island-themed attire. Roots will also be playing Bob Marley's music and other reggae all night long during the party.
