The jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Peaks of Otter Lodge, has crafted a truly wonderful farm to table dining experience for guests to enjoy on their Blue Ridge Mountain getaway. A breathtaking view of Abbott Lake and a locally sourced and sustainable menu will make for a great addition to an already magical stay at Peaks of Otter, and a great way to kick off the spring season.

Peaks is bringing the sustainability theme full circle, with their support of local farming and donating remaining food for composting purposes. Local produce and meat will be sourced from Produce Source Partners, Virginia's largest independent produce distributor located in Roanoke. Their commitment to supporting local farms is a mission that the Peaks' team is extremely passionate to be a part of. Peaks will be donating their leftover food to Great Day Gardens located in nearby Forest, who then resources the materials into healthy soil - a crucial step in producing high-quality organic vegetables. Arden of Great Day Gardens says, "This is extremely beneficial for the community, as it closes the loop between high cost farm essentials and the 40% of food wasted in the country."

Executive Chef Heather Cash, former sous chef from Skyland in Shenandoah National Park, is extremely excited for the end result the culinary team has been working hard to craft. "Along with the recent renovations to the dining room including a brand new buffet bar, we are also excited to offer locally sourced menus, including produce and meat from nearby resources." says Cash.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a view is personified in the Peaks dining experience. Whether the sunrise shines through the windows for an early morning breakfast, or the sunset reflects off Abbott Lake during a meal of the locals' favorite roasted turkey dinner - the glorious nature of the Blue Ridge Mountains is the perfect backdrop for a meal.
As the spring season continues, there is no better way to support local and dine satisfied than a meal at Peaks of Otter. About the Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a product of the Depression Era's New Deal efforts to provide jobs to the unemployed of the Great Depression. Construction began in September 1935 at Cumberland Knob near the North Carolina and Virginia state line. The idea was to create a link between Shenandoah National Park to the edge of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Completed in 1983, the Parkway's history has been highlighted by documentarian Ken Burns in the six-part "The National Parks: America's Best Idea."

Named "America's Favorite Drive", the Parkway offers 469 miles of scenic roadway connecting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. All along the way visitors will find stunning views, abundant hiking trails, picnic areas, campsites, interpretative exhibits and a diverse display of flora and fauna.
