dance Immersion celebrates 20 years of supporting, promoting and producing dancers and dances of the African Diaspora with the first of two Showcase Presentations offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience their contributions to the global arts community.

Celebrating Our Men in Dance, part of the TD Then and Now Black History Month series, features works by eight acclaimed choreographers and runs Thursday February 6 to Saturday February 8, 2014 at Enwave Theatre as part of Harbourfront Centre's NextSteps.

Celebrating Our Men in Dance brings some of Canada's finest male choreographers to the forefront in a showcase that highlights the many ideas and expressions by dance artists of African descent. These emerging and senior artists share dance works displaying the numerous perspectives from black men in dance in Canada.

Eight diverse choreographers - Shavar Blackwood (Top 14 spot on Season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada), Shawn Byfield (Dora Award winner, Funk Factory), BaKari I. Lindsay (COBA - Collective of Black Artists), Mafa Makhubalo (COBA), Sani Abu Mohammed (ijo vudu!), Mikhail Morris (Original Venom), Casimiro Nhussi (Winnipeg's NAfro Dance Productions) and Patrick Parsons (Ballet Creole) - grace the stage with works that include traditional and contemporary African, hip hop, contemporary, dancehall and more.

These eight artists will take audiences on a journey celebrating these diverse dance forms for Black History Month.
