Romeo et Juliet

San Diego Ballet's 2015-16 Season begins with Romeo et Juliet, which runs from Oct 16th - 18th at the Lyceum Theatre and a one-night-only performance at the Old Town Temecula Theatre. Shakespeare's immortal tale comes to life through an exploration of the human spirit and the thrill of bodies in motion. Lush and romantic, sensual and sublime, this stunning work will invoke the heady perfume of hushed voices at twilight, evenings filled with crescent moons, the wine of desire and doomed promises of a love that will last forever. This rapturous evening is devoted to young love's triumphs and tragedies.

Carnival of the Animals

BALLET - HIP HOP - GIANT PUPPETS - WOW!

On October 24, for one-performance only, at the Old Town Temecula Theater, Carnival of the Animals will take the audience on a colorful journey through the animal kingdom set to the beloved music of Camille Saint-Saens and folk music from all over the world. Velasco's modern/ballet fusion staging featuring hip hop dance performed by alumnus of San Diego's first and finest hip hop crew, Culture Shock San Diego. This year, the production will be joined by the fantastical puppets of Animal Cracker Conspiracy and will be introduced by a special "guest" from the Living Coast Discover Center.

The Nutcracker

A treasured holiday tradition, the San Diego Ballet's Nutcracker will be performed at the Jacobs Music Center (formerly Copley Symphony Hall) on December 26th and 27th. These tickets are the perfect gift to receive for the holidays. A wonderful ballet for the entire family, the Nutcracker is a fabulous way to introduce young children to the power and beauty of classical dance. A beautiful party, an exciting battle, snow drifting on stage and a visit to the Land of Sweets are all set to Tchaikovsky's uplifting score. You will leave this production believing in the magic of the holidays.

A Jazz Repertoire

Through the past 25 years in San Diego, Javier Velasco has pushed the boundaries of ballet with his unique collaborations on stage. Previous productions have presented inspired choreography combined with Hip Hop dance companies, gigantic puppetry, spoken word poets, mariachi music and, last year, live jazz music. Exploring further the beauty of jazz music, this season will introduce a world premiere ballet to the live music of Gilbert Castellanos, one of San Diego's most iconic Jazz musicians. These performances will be presented at the Lyceum Theatre on February 5th - 7th.
