About Founder/Choreographer MIRO MAGLOIRE

Born in Munich Germany, Miro started his career as a composer. At age 17 he won the "Young Composers Award" in North Rhineland Westphalia, and went on to study with Mauricio Kagel at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne. After relocating to New York to study dance, he turned his attention to choreography and in 2004 founded New Chamber Ballet. Magloire has created over 60 ballets in his signature style for his company, all distinguished by sweeping elegance, striking theatricality, and bold musical choices. Indeed, he has participated in ground-breaking collaborations with musicians, singers, violinists, pianists, and large ensemble. Magloire has a special affinity for cutting-edge contemporary music, which has led him to work with many of today's composers.

In addition to his work for his own New Chamber Ballet, Magloire has created dances for the Sarasota Opera (their recent "Aida"), the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Tahoe Youth Ballet, Dance Department of Musikhochschule Koln (Germany), Columbia Ballet Collaborative NYC, Bramante's Tempietto in Rome, and more. Upcoming events for Magloire include creating a ballet for the Connecticut-based Vivid Ballet, a summer performance for the Company at the Omaha Under the Stars music festival, and another tour of Germany.

Magloire's awards include two O'Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation grants; Artist Residency at the Center for Faith and Work in NYC; Jerome Robbins Foundation grant; and two NYC Department of Cultural Affairs grants. In print, he was the subject of a full page profile in the Sunday New York Times (June 2008).
