José Mateo Ballet Theatre opens the Company's 29th Season with a concert of stunning original ballets by New England's celebrated dance-maker, José Mateo. Far Reaches (Oct 10-26) offers a sampling of Mateo's most emotional and powerful works at the glorious Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square, Cambridge.

"This season will feature dances to music by the greatest of composers from Bach to Bartok, Schnittke and Gorecki, to some unknown ones you will discover and want to learn more about," says Artistic Director Jose Mateo. "If you are looking for a memorable event that will surprise you in unexpected ways, then see us at The Sanctuary Theatre, a unique venue that will change the way you think about performance dance. Experience close-up, live theatre that will transport and maybe even transform you."

More than just "going to the ballet", Far Reaches offers a thrilling live dance theater experience designed for today's audiences. Named one of Massachusetts' 1,000 Great Places to Visit, the stunning Sanctuary Theatre offers an extraordinary close up view of the dancers with cabaret-style seating and cocktails during the show. See ballet in a new light and be part of the drama, passion, and beauty on stage at the spectacular performance space in Old Cambridge Baptist Church, a National Historic Landmark Far Reaches (October 10-26, 2014) Far Reaches features Mateo's Presage (2005).

Set to Polish composer Henryk Gorecki's soaring Symphony #3, it is a powerful and visually stunning dance that celebrates the majesty of the human spirit. A favorite from one of Mr. Mateo's popular Cuban-inspired concerts, Ayer Pasado (2004) meaning "The Day Before Yesterday", unfolds to music by Manuel Samuel, a romantic composer considered the father of national Cuban music, and composer of 58 Contradanzas for piano. Mateo's Back to Back, which premiered in 2002, is set to the immortal music of Johann Sebastian Bach's Piano Concerto in G minor. Press Night: Friday, Oct. 17, 8:00 pm Hailed by Boston Magazine as "Best of Boston Dance Performance 2011", Mateo's hallmark-style of presenting dance close-up makes dance personal and relevant to today's audiences.
