UtahPresents brings bold and innovative contemporary dance company Northwest Dance Project to the University of Utah. Performing an all-original repertoire from a select roster of accomplished choreographers as well as the most promising new talents, Northwest Dance Project has fostered the creation and premiere of over 175 original contemporary dance works to date. Northwest Dance Project will perform at Marriott Center for Dance on Friday, January 22 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $30, with a $5 ticket for U of U students and a $10 ticket for non-U students and youth 18 and under, and are available at 801-581-7100 or utahpresents.org.

Founded in 2004 by acclaimed dancer, mentor and choreographer Sarah Slipper, Northwest Dance Project is dedicated to the creation and performance of contemporary dance works from established and emerging dance makers. The company's dedication to providing dancers and dance makers the resources and creative room needed to realize new, inspired dance works led Dance International Magazine to proclaim that they are "changing the way dance is created" and have become "a laboratory, factory and repository for risk-taking new works from the next generation of choreographers from Europe and North America."

The Salt Lake City performance will feature one of Northwest Dance Project's signature works choreographed by founding artistic director Sarah Slipper. The piece, "MemoryHouse," with music by Max Richter and Yann Tiersen, is a dramatic duet and the final minutes of the work are decided by the dancers onstage.

The performance will also include "What We've Lost on the Way," choreographed by Felix Landerer with music by Christof Littmann, "At Some Hour You Return," choreographed by Jiri Pokorny with music by Sync24, Nicolas Jaar and Jacaszek, and "State of Matter," choreographed by Ihsan Rustem with music by Olafur Armalds and Max Richter.

In addition to the public performance, the company will be teaching master classes to students in both the Modern Dance and Ballet departments at the University of Utah.
