"Spatial Forces Clarinet Duo: Electroacoustic Music AHEAD!"

The sonic possibilities of the clarinet and bass clarinet are endless! The Spatial Forces Duo, featuring Millersville faculty member and acclaimed clarinetist Christy Banks, explore clarinet music through works influenced by rock, folk, electroacoustic, and minimalist styles. Dr. Christy Banks, Associate Professor of clarinet and saxophone and Assistant Chair of the Music Department at Millersville University, has shared her passion for performing newly composed, genre-defying music with audiences in Lancaster as well as throughout the U.S., in Europe, and in China. She joins forces with University of North Carolina Charlotte clarinet professor Dr. Jessica Lindsey to present a multi-media feast for the senses that includes world premieres by Philadelphia-area composer Richard Belcastro and Lancaster's own Rusty Banks.

"Strange Lands and Familiar Tunes"

Professor of Music & Director of Keyboard Studies, Anita Renfroe, will add deeper meaning to familiar tunes by presenting them within the context in which they were composed in this lecture recital featuring the harpsichord and piano. Dr. Renfroe earned her degrees in piano performance - the Bachelor of Music from Florida State University, the Master of Music from Memphis State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Music in Louisville, Kentucky. She is currently a featured artist, clinician, and adjudicator for state and national conventions, including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. Dr. Renfroe has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a piano soloist, organ soloist, and harpsichordist. Her concert venues in Europe include Heidelberg, Frankfort, and Stuttgart, Germany as well as Grenoble and Nohant, France. Renfroe's solo recitals in Washington D.C. include the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater, Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts, the Organization of American States, the National Air and Space Museum, and the World Bank.

David Cullen, classical guitar

"An Evening of Classical Guitar Masterworks"

Grammy Award-winning guitarist, guitar instructor at Millersville University, and Artist in Residence at Elizabethtown College, David Cullen, will present his first MU Faculty Solo Guitar Recital featuring the works of J.S. Bach and Frederico Moreno Torroba. Cullen has performed throughout North America in a dazzling wide range of styles including Jazz, Classical and World Music. His playing has been described by Soundboard Magazine as "absolutely first rate." He has performed with Will Ackerman, Samite, Michael Manring, The Jaco Big Band, and the Philly Pops Orchestra. He has also been featured in the New York Times and Guitar Player Magazine. Cullen received his Bachelors' of Music in Guitar Performance from the Hartt School of Music. He has recorded 10 CDs for the acoustic label SOLID AIR RECORDS, and his recordings have been featured on NPR stations across the country.

Tickets for each concert are $10, general admission, and can be purchased online by visiting ArtsMU.com or by calling717-871-7600. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Ticket Office located in the Student Memorial Center on Millersville's campus, or the Ware Center, located at 42 N. Prince Street, in Lancaster. Tickets are free for MU Students & Visiting Students (any age, any level) with a valid ID at a ticket office location or at the door. Doors open one hour before each show for ticket sales, subject to availability.
