Parody Musicals, Solo Shows and More Slate for the PIT's Winter/Spring Lineup

The Peoples Improv Theater is happy to announce some of the programming for our winter and spring seasons the slate includes a diverse range of comedy and theater, from "historical hip-hoperas" to epic parody musicals to solo shows from stand ups and internationally acclaimed performance artists and even plays in addition to their regular line up of improv and sketch shows.


Shows:

Running Fridays at 9:30pm through March 3rd is a full run of the sold-out musical sensation North Coast Presents Anybody: An Improvised Historical Hip-Hopera. Acclaimed hip-hop musical improv group North Coast conjures up a totally new biographical musical based on an audience suggestion, spitting rhymes as funny as they are fast.

Starting on February 4th are the world premiere of Star Wars: The Farce Awakens by 50 Shades! The Musical creators Jody Shelton and Chris Grace with Tim Sniffen as well as the transfer of the FringeNYC comedia dell'arte hit A History Of Servitude.

Star Wars: The Farce Awakens is a brand new parody lampooning all things A Galaxy, Far, Far Away and features an all star cast of musical comedians. A History of Servitude by The Department of Fools features an international cast and brings Commedia dell'Arte, the grand-daddy of modern improv and sketch, to The PIT Underground in this bawdy and ridiculous history of the underdog.

After successful runs at The New York Comedy Fest, SXSW, The Soho Theater in London, and the Just for laughs fest in Montreal, stand up Sean Patton (Comedy Central, The Meltdown, Maron, Inside Amy Schumer) brings his honest and hilarious one man show, Sean Patton: Number One to The PIT for a strictly limited engagement of February 7th - 12th prior to a run at The Edinburgh fringe festival in August 2017. "'I love it and want to make you love it too' - Me (Sean Patton)"

The PIT is also pleased to announced an extension for Looking Back, It May Not Have Been Ridgefield High's Best Production of Our Town through February 12th. NYC playwright, actor, director and webseries creator Augie Praley brings his quasi-autobiographical salute to the myths, ghosts, humor and heartbreak of what happens over decades in one particular high school's gymnatorium in this Thornton Wilder riffing play.

And finally internationally acclaimed "facilitor of people's good times...crowd dominatrix with a friendly twinkle and perfect Mistress of Ceremonies" Miss Behave brings here must-be-experienced-to-be-believed Miss Behave Gameshow to The PIT Underground beginning April 19th. The audience are divided into teams and pitted against each other based on their cell phone choice: iPhone v Others. Competing for arbitrary points they play inventive games utilizing smart phones, satire, pop culture and adrenalin. A Lord of the Flies competitive drive and a realization that no one is in charge results in a highly interactive audience working as one.

Weekly improv and monthly shows:

Additional performances include Super Free Monday and Super Free Wednesday shows featuring The PIT's improv House Teams as well as the long-running, world class improv of Gypsy Danger & The Baldwins on Saturdays at 8pm; Monthly installments of Allison Goldberg and Jen Jamula's Blogologues and their new interactive show How To Break Up By Text.

Family Programming:

The PIT is also presenting family friendly programming throughout the winter: Grammy nominated stand up Billy Kelly continues his monthly Family Comedy show on February and March 4th. All ages musical extravaganza Lard Dog & The Band of Shy begin a weekly run on Saturday February 25th.

The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT) is an award winning training center and comedy theater based in New York City.
