Downtown Freedom Seder

City Winery proudly hosts its popular, celebrity-driven music, artistic and interactive Downtown Freedom Seder (SAY-der) in advance of the Jewish holiday of Passover which officially starts on Monday, April 10 at sundown. Offering a unique and contemporary connection to a historic tradition, the Seder features more than a dozen performers, politicians and thinkers sharing a meal with the audience and providing a one-of-a-kind interpretation of the ancient Passover story. Featured participants include comedians Joel Chasnoff and Judy Gold, Blues musician Corky Siegel, activist Malcolm London, Rabbi Brant Rosen and more.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (HBE) is a family band consisting of seven blood brothers who began their musical training at the tender ages of four and five under their father, jazz trumpeter/band leader Kelan Phil Cohran of Earth, Wind, & Fire, Chaka Khan and Sun Ra. The boys went on to form the Phil Cohran Youth Ensemble in 1990. The family toured the United States performing the complex original written jazz compositions of Cohran and other greats such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and even the music of classical greats Bach and Beethoven. While the group's musical training was primarily instrumental, the brothers were exposed to the music of their own generation such as hip-hop, rock and reggae, and combined these elements with the cosmic jazz style of their father. By 1999, the band of brothers discontinued playing with their dad to find their own sound, growing into the band now known as Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Together they have toured throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America playing with everyone from Prince, Mos Def, Mick Jones (The Clash) and Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). They've performed at Coachella, WOMAD AU, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall. After international success, the group returns stateside for a domestic tour with an emphasis on performances available to young students.

The Complete Band on the Run Starring Denny Laine of Wings

Denny Laine celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Wings Over America tour with a live on-stage performance of their greatest album, Band on the Run - complete and unabridged! Within a year of its release, Band on the Run had sold more than six million copies worldwide, having spawned three U.S. Top Ten hits: "Helen Wheels," "Jet" and the title track. The singles alone occupied the U.S. chart for 45 weeks, while the album stayed on the charts for over 2 years. Band on The Run was in the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 as recently as 2010 when a remastered version of the album was released. By far the most successful album involving any of the Beatles following their breakup, Band on the Run was created by Paul McCartney, Denny Laine and Linda McCartney. The other members of Wings quit the group just prior to the departure to Lagos, Nigeria to begin sessions for the album, but out of adversity came advantage. With Paul McCartney on vocals, piano, drums, guitar, bass and keys; Denny Laine contributing vocals, keys, acoustic, electric and bass guitars; and Linda on keys and vocals, Band On the Run transcended its time to become an album whose deep cuts, such as "Let Me Roll It," "Picasso's Last Words," "Mrs. Vanderbilt", "No Words" and "Bluebird," are better remembered - and played more often on classic rock radio - than most hits of the era.

Samantha Fish

Kansas City Blues artist Samantha Fish, often called a Blues prodigy, has been known to share the stage with artists such as Tommy Castro, Tab Benoit, Shirley King, Watermelon Slim, Kenny Neal and CedRic Burnside. Her deceptively mature voice is sultry and innocent at the same time, while her intense guitar gives her a sound that is a cross between Jonny Lang and Susan Tedeschi. Her new album, Chills & Fever (to be released March 17, 2017), is best described as a pure slab of rocking rhythm n' blues.

Amy Helm & the Handsome Strangers

Singer/songwriter Amy Helm is the daughter of The Band's Levon Helm and singer/songwriter Libby Titus. She is a founding member of the roots band Ollabelle which has three acclaimed albums to its credit. She collaborated with her father, singing and playing in his band and co-producing his Grammy-winning 2007 comeback album Dirt Farmer. Helm also helped organize the now legendary Midnight Ramble concerts, a tradition of loose and inspired jam sessions that continue to this day, at Levon's home studio in Woodstock, NY. Helm's own folk-rock repertoire is soulful and deep.

Micky Dolenz: The Voice of the Monkees

Actor, singer, director, producer, writer, radio DJ, inventor and all-around performer extraordinaire, Micky Dolenz first established himself as a performer at age 10 when, under the stage name of "Mickey Braddock," he starred in his own first TV series "Circus Boy" which aired on NBC, and then ABC, from 1956-1958. As he graduated high school and began attending college in the mid-'60s, Dolenz learned to play guitar. He soon began to perform with rock 'n roll bands, including The Missing Links. He auditioned for a show about a rock band, "The Monkees' TV," and was chosen along with three other actors: Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork. He and his fellow TV bandmates went on to become a real rock band which toured from 1965-1971. The Monkees has had several reunions since then, the most recent was announced in February 2016 to celebrate the group's 50th anniversary. A limited number of VIP meet & greet tickets will be available for both performances for $75.

City Winery also announces Joe Robinson will open for Rodney Crowell on Mar. 25.
