This week, ImprovBoston hosts marquee shows for The Boston Comedy Festival (BCF), a nationwide standup competition in which nearly 100 contestants battle for a $10,000 prize.

From November 11-19, BCF brings standup comics to several Boston stages for eight preliminary rounds, four semifinal rounds, and a finale featuring John Ratzenberger, best known for his role as Cliff Clavin in the television series Cheers.

In addition to standup competition rounds, the festival includes standup performances by influential comedians from across the nation, playful back-storytelling with big names in comedy, and comedy film screenings showcasing both classic and new voices.

ImprovBoston entertains BCF audiences with these three hilarious events:

  • Preliminary Round 8, Thursday, November 17, 7:30PM. Last Comic Standing Season 9's Dan Crohn presents a first round of competition. Crohn wowed audiences as a past BCF semi-finalist, voice on XM Radio, and guest on the popular podcast WTF with Marc Mahon.

  • Best of the Rest: BCF Acts & Local Comics, Friday, November 18, 11:30PM. ImprovBoston welcomes the best of the rest of the fest: highlighted standups from the festival.

  • Airplane! Screening and Q&A with Director David Zucker, Saturday, November 19, 12:30PM. After a director's cut screening of his iconic hit Airplane!, Director David Zucker answers pressing questions about the film. Airplane! is a spoof comedy that takes shots at the slew of 70s disaster movies.

Other festival headliners include:

  • Comedian Patty Ross of the films Spotlight, The Heat, Grown Ups, and The Three Stooges

  • Veteran standup comic Lenny Clarke

  • Last Comic Standing Season 9's Kelly MacFarland

  • Comedian Eugene Mirman of the animated comedy Bob's Burgers

  • Comedian Jonathan Katz of his animated sitcom Dr. Katz

  • Standup comic Emo Phillips of HBO and network television

  • Political satirist and author Barry Crimmins

"BCF has been a landmark of the Boston comedy scene for so long," explains Tom Spataro, Managing Director at ImprovBoston. "We're excited to partner with another Boston Comedy institution to continue to serve laughs to the greater Boston community."
