Zhang Huoding and the Peking Opera to Perform This Fall at Lincoln Center

For the first time outside of China, The China Arts & Entertainment Group (CAEG), a creative enterprise under the administration of the Ministry of Culture for the People's Republic of China and the National Academy Of China Theatre Arts proudly present Zhang Houding (one of China's most popular performers) with the Peking Opera at the David H. Koch Theater (Lincoln Center) at 8:00pm on September 2nd Legend Of The White Snake" and on the 3rd "The Jewelry Purse". This historical special engagement is the fifth production in an ongoing relationship between CAEG and the David H. Koch Theater.

This January 7-10, 2016, CAEG will present a new attraction, their 6th at the theater. These presentations showcase China's historical contribution to the world of theater and art by presenting the finest in Chinese contemporary and classical performing arts to the United States.

Prior to this historical presentation -- The First Time outside of China there will be a series of talks/lectures around New York City: Thursday, June 18 at the Flushing Library by the New York Chinese Opera Society); Saturday, June 27 World Journal by Alan Chow; Friday, July 17 6:30pm at Pace University by the New York Chinese Opera Society; TBA later in July at the China Institute by Ben Wang; and a later one tba at Columbia University.

Zhang Huoding, is one of China's most renowned and loved performing artists. Thanks to her melodious singing voice and her outstanding performances, not only have the elderly followed her career, the youth have given her pop star-like status. This year Zhang Huoding returned to the stage following a four-year hiatus to care for her baby. Zhang's comeback performance in Shanghai caused quite a buzz in the country. Tickets immediately sold out, and the organizer had a policy for ticket sales - one ID card to buy two tickets only. And in April, fans around the country travelled to Beijing for those immediately sold out concerts. Following her initial schooling, she entered the Tianjin Opera School. Upon graduation, she was admitted into the ZHANYOU Peking Opera Troupe in Beijing. In 1995, she transferred to the National Peking Opera Company. Her singing, acting and dancing possess the characters of the great China masters. In 2007, she performed a solo concert of symphonic opera in the Great Hall of the People, becoming the first opera performer there. A year later she joined NACTA to work as a teacher.

The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA) was founded in 1950 on the base of the Experimental School of Chinese Theatre Arts under the Ministry of Culture of the People's Central Government. It eventually transformed into the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in 1978. NACTA is divided into eleven teaching sections: the Performing Arts, Drama Writing, Directing, Stage Arts, Music, Peking Opera, New Media Arts, International Cultural Communication, General Education, Continuing Education, and the High School of Chinese Theatre Arts. NACTA is the most important base for Chinese theatre arts education.

The China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG), the first large publicly-owned cultural enterprise, was inaugurated after the merger of the China Performing Arts Agency (CPAA) and the China International Exhibition Agency, as a major step to transform Chinese culture and art institutions into modern enterprises. They are under the auspice of the Ministry of Culture. CAEG has built a national network covering the whole arts industry, and has become extremely influential both in and out of China. CAEG presents more than 5500 events in more than 300 cities abroad, attracting more than 10 million audiences annually, playing a significant role in China's external cultural relations. The company has co-produced shows including multi-media acrobatic extravaganza ERA-Intersection of Time, Chinese versions of the Musicals Mama Mia and Cats. CAEG has established a marketing network covering all major markets in China. Its ticketing network has 22 offices, offering services to more than 50 cities. The company's CPAA Theatre Chain now has 57 member theatres including 9 directly-managed with a total of more than 100,000 seats, presenting 4800 performances and attracting more than 4 million audiences annually.
