Union County Performing Arts Center is sponsoring 2 music education workshops in Basics of Rhythm & Melody for children ages 5-10 presented by international jazz stars Ms. Reut Regev and Mr. Igal Foni.

The workshops are Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Hamilton Stage, 360 Hamilton Street, Rahway, and Saturday, Mar. 14, 2015 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the UCPAC Loft, 1601 Irving Street, Rahway.

Both workshops are admission-free, but children must pre-register by calling the Union County Performing Arts Center box office at (732) 499-8226.

Ms. Regev and Mr. Foni are professional music educators who perform jazz and improvisatory music at festivals around the world. Ms. Regev performs trombone, slide trumpet, flugelhorn and piano; Mr. Foni plays drums and numerous percussion instruments.

They will show children how to create instant compositions with simple melodies and rhythms. No previous musical experience is necessary.

"Reut and Igal are fabulous musicians who like to have fun with music," says Union County Performing Arts Center executive director Lawrence E. McCullough. "Children attending this workshop will learn musical fundamentals and have the chance to put what they learn into practice."

The workshops are made possible in part by a HEART Grant (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
