The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO) celebrates the holidays in big ways-this year performing three different concerts within one week. Music plays a large part in making the season special, and that means it's the busiest time of year for musicians.

On Saturday, December 10, the SDSO and the South Dakota Symphony Chorus perform their annual Holiday Collage, a South Dakota tradition filled with seasonal favorites and Christmas cheer. On Sunday, December 11, the SDSO partners with Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith as they return to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center with special guest JorDan Smith. Finally, First Lutheran Church hosts the SDSO and Chorus on Friday, December 16 to perform the classic presentation of the life of Christ, Handel's Messiah.

"Our musicians are committed to helping our community celebrate," says Jennifer Boomgaarden, executive director of the SDSO. "The orchestra is passionate about music and puts in a tremendous amount of energy into bringing these performances to life, making the holidays memorable for the whole family."

The full 65-member SDSO performs for Holiday Collage and at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. A chamber orchestra is used for Handel's Messiah. The South Dakota Symphony Chorus, under the direction of chorusmaster Dr. James Johnson, is comprised of over 100 volunteers throughout the Sioux Falls community and will perform for Holiday Collage and Handel's Messiah.

The SDSO and Chorus perform Holiday Collage on Saturday, December 10 at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM at the Washington Pavilion. Handel's Messiah is Friday, December 16 at 7:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Tickets for either show can be purchased online at sdsymphony.org or by calling the Washington Pavilion box office at (605) 367 - 6000.

Christmas with Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith takes place on Sunday, December 11 at 7:00 PM at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. Tickets are available online through www.ticketmaster.com or charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000.
