Custom House Maritime Museum to Host Opening Reception for Ruth Sussler Exhibit, 9/7
Next Saturday, September 7, the New London Maritime Society--Custom House Maritime Museum hosts an opening reception for artist Ruth Sussler's exhibition Scenes from Neptune Park. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place Saturday, September 7 from 5 to 7 PM at the Custom House Maritime Museum.
Ruth Sussler, an elected artist of the Mystic Art Center, is a long-time resident of New London's Neptune Park and many of the painting in this exhibition are poetically re-imagined scenes from that neighborhood. About one painting, Ruth Sussler writes, 'the Eagle drops anchor for a moonlight overnight in the New London outer harbor, with Race Rock Light nearby.'
In another, 'motorcycle riders gather at the wall along Pequot Avenue as distant water traffic passes beyond, a golden sunset bathes all with its glow as the tides beat in and out.'
Ruth Sussler's luminous paintings will remain on view at the Custom House Maritime Museum through September 29, 2013. Exhibition hours are Tuesday through Sunday (closed Monday) from 1 to 5 PM or by appointment.
