Mark Nadler is visiting his second home, Adelaide, in South Australia, and then going on to perform for the first time in MELBOURNE AND Sydney. In Adelaide he will be performing Mark Nadler in a Nutshell. The Senior Editor for Adelaide, Barry Lenny, chatted to Mark about the coming Tour.

Barry: Hi Mark. It's great to chat to you again. Your legion of fans were sorry that you were not at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival this year and so everybody is, naturally, very excited to hear that you will be in Adelaide in August. How did this tour come about?

Mark: My manager booked me to play in Melbourne and Sydney and I thought, "well I CAN'T go to Australia and not go to Adelaide!!" SO I wrote to Paul Boylon at La Boheme and asked him if he'd like me to do some shows.

Barry: What can we expect in this performance? Is it one of your superb scripted shows, or is it to be a more freewheeling evening? Adelaide audiences are used to seeing you in rather larger venues. How are you feeling about performing in such an intimate cocktail lounge cabaret room?

Mark: Thank you for referring to my scripted shows as "superb"! This is not going to be scripted in the slightest, although I do hope it will be superb! Last year I played a very small club in New York called Noctambulo. No guest artists. No other instrumentalists. Just me at the piano with about 40 guests. Well, it turned out to be as much fun as I've had on stage in a long time and the audiences just loved it, so this is what I'm going to be doing in Adelaide. Every show will be different, although I'm sure that there are some pieces I'll repeat.

Barry: You came to Sydney when you were nominated for a Helpmann Award for I'm a Stranger Here Myself that you performed at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. How does it feel to be returning to perform in Sydney for the first time?

Mark: I'm really looking forward to playing both Melbourne and Sydney. You really get to know a town by its audiences. Audiences are microcosms of any given town and I'm curious to see the differences from one Australian town to another. I will tell you that they're going to have a VERY hard time beating Adelaide! Also, I made quite a few friends in both Sydney and Melbourne when I did the Cabaret Festival in Adelaide. I'm looking forward to seeing those people again!

Barry: What plans do you have for your limited spare time on this tour?

Mark: Because I've been to Adelaide so many times, I've really truly made some DEAR friends there. I'm so looking forward to spending time with those people - dining, drinking and partying into the wee hours. I assume that the wee-hour partying that goes on during the Adelaide Cabaret Festival is available in August, as well. If not, we'll MAKE it happen!!

Barry: Don't worry, Mark. Adelaide folk can party anytime, at the drop of a hat.
