PERIOD OF ADJUSTMENT, THE TRIALS OF GERTRUDE MOODY & More Set for Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater's 30th Anniversary Season

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater has announced its 30th anniversary season: a world premiere comedy; a play that helped launch Julie Harris' career; a new social comedy with music; and a rarely-produced Tennessee Williams comedy in collaboration with the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival. As our Elliot Norton Award proclaims, we're known for "Establishing a Beachhead for Serious Theatre on Cape Cod." This year will continue that tradition.

In assembling the 30th anniversary year their goals were to build on our award-winning reputation by providing an alternative theater experience not found elsewhere in the region, and to pay tribute to Julie Harris' illustrious career and her relationship to Cape Cod.

With that in mind, WHAT will host a gala celebration commemorating Julie Harris in July, a Julie Harris Film Festival in August and a display in honor of Julie all summer long, with memorabilia contributed from friends and fellow theaters. WHAT will also present the second annual Music Festival Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in July and a new WHAT for Kids play written and directed by Stephen Russell (title to be announced in the spring).

World Premiere
THE TRIALS OF GERTRUDE MOODY Written by Kimberly Burke, Directed by Jef Hall-Flavin
Previews: May 22, 23 • Opens: May 24 • Closes: June 21

Trudy Moody is the last of her kind. An orphaned parrot, raised by humans, Trudy overcomes 400 years of hardship across three continents to become an international fashion icon. This world premiere pays tribute to WHAT's early years. Sock puppets and David Bowie are involved.

Tribute to Julie HarrisI AM A CAMERA Written by John Van Druten Adapted from "The Berlin Stories" of Christopher Isherwood Directed by Caitlin Langstaff Previews: June 26, 27 • Opens: June 28 • Closes: July 19 Inspired by Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories, John Van Druten draws an affecting portrait of young people trying to come to terms with their hopes and dreams as the decadence of the Weimar Republic gives way to the relentless evil of the Nazi Reich. Julie Harris won her first Tony Award for her role as Sally Bowles. This seldom-produced play was the basis for Cabaret.

A New Social Comedy with Music
THE FABULOUS LIPITONES Written by John Markus and Mark St. Germain, Directed by John Markus

An a capella singing group, together since high school with dreams of winning a big championship, is crushed when its lead singer succumbs to a strenuously high B-flat. In a touching and hysterical story of how traditional, small town America views "the other," the surviving trio reluctantly and suspiciously recruits a replacement lead whose music and culture couldn't be more opposite than theirs.

Dates for the TWF to be announced A gentle, light-hearted story that brings together two couples on Christmas Eve and emulates the sign of the times in the late 1950s. This Tennessee Williams comedic departure was written in response to a critic who asked why his plays were always "plunging into the sewers." The result is a serious comedy with a humorous viewpoint on very real human situations.
