Broadway superstar Bernadette Peters will headline the 22nd annual gala to benefit The Price Center, a regional leader in providing care to adults with developmental disabilities.

Peters will perform at The Price Center Gala on Friday, October 5, at the Marriott Copley Place hotel.  An acclaimed actress and recording artist, Peters will be backed by a 10-piece band as she performs from the American Songbook and other well-known classics.

This year’s Gala will also honor James T. Brett, president and CEO of The New England Council. A long-time activist for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Brett is Chairman of the Governor’s Commission on Intellectual Disability and in 2011, President Barack Obama appointed him the Chair of The President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. (www.newenglandcouncil.com) Jim Brett will be introduced at the Gala by Joseph P. Kennedy III, candidate for Congress.

Peters will take the stage as part of a full evening of entertainment that also includes a set by Boston’s favorite doo-wop group the G-Clefs. The G-Clefs, who have performed for The Price Center crowds over the years, have announced that the Gala will be their last performance before the group retires.

Peters has won two Tony Awards and was honored at this year’s Tony Awards ceremony with the Isabelle Stevenson Award, which is presented each year to an individual from the theater community who has made a substantial contribution to humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations

It was 22 years ago when Jerry Fineberg, founder and chairman of the Wellesley-based Fineberg Companies, and his colleague Dan Frank launched what has become a tradition: The Annual Price Center Gala. They were later joined by Fineberg’s daughter, Michelle, and have grown the Gala to an annual event that brings more than 800 guests together to enjoy an evening of entertainment with extraordinary talent while raising funds and generating awareness of The PriceCenter’s work.  Since its inception, the Gala has raised millions in support of the agency’s programs and services.
