The Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Company of Fools (COF) have been awarded two highly competitive grants-one from The Shubert Foundation and one from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Recognition from these two esteemed and influential organizations honors The Center's and COF's dedication to the arts as well as their excellence in programming.

Company of Fools, the professional theatre company that is a part of The Center, was recently awarded their first grant from The Shubert Foundation. This grant of $10,000 will contribute to COF's general operating expenses. The Shubert grant is a highly coveted award in professional theatre. Recipients must not only excel artistically, but also off stage, as they're required to have track records of artistic achievement as well as administrative strength and fiscal responsibility.

"What is deeply rewarding about receiving a grant from The Schubert Foundation is that not only does it affirm artistic excellence but our merger with The Center," said Denise Simone, Core Company Artist. "For years we were unable to apply because we did not have the resources to conduct a full audit. Joining with The Center has expanded our possibilities!"

Established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert in memory of their brother Sam, The Shubert Foundation is dedicated to sustaining and advancing the live performing arts in the United States, with a particular emphasis on theatre and a secondary focus on dance. As a major player the performing arts world, the foundation is also the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc., which currently owns and operates 21 theatres, including 17 on Broadway, one Off-Broadway theatre, and one each in Boston and Philadelphia.

The Warhol Foundation has awarded The Center a grant of $48,000 to support an exhibition of work by artists responding to Craters of the Moon National Monument. The exhibition will feature experimental photography by Binh Danh; tar and oil paint paintings by former artist-in-residence at Craters, Cindy Tower; and large-scale, site-specific sculptures by John Grade and Jason Middlebrook. It is scheduled for May 20-July 30, 2016, and will be installed at Craters of the Moon with related materials presented in the exhibition at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.

The exhibition will coincide with the National Park Service Centennial celebrations and Center staff have been collaborating with National Park Service staff at Craters of the Moon in planning the project. The Ketchum Arts Commission has given financial support to the project as well, in anticipation of the eventual installation of one or both of the sculptures on public sites within the city.

The innovative and experimental nature of the Craters of the Moon exhibition directly reflects the mission of the Warhol Foundation, which is to foster such artistic expression and support cultural organization behind these projects and movements. The Foundation is focused primarily on supporting work of a challenging and often experimental nature, while noting that the interpretation of those terms may vary from place to place and culture to culture. In this regard the Foundation encourages curatorial research leading to new scholarship in the field of contemporary art.

"These grants are significant affirmations of The Center's ambitious programming," remarked Kristin Poole, Artistic Director for Sun Valley Center for the Arts. "We are honored to be recognized by these two prestigious foundations."
