Spotlight Theatre Presents NEXT TO NORMAL, 6/5-6/14
With music by Tom Kitt, book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, Spotlight Theatre is proud to present the first of six performances of the musical Next to Normal beginning June 5th. With an electrifying score of more than 30 original songs, Next to Normal shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family's world intact while coping with mental illness.
Launched in 2010, Spotlight Theatre is a mentoring theatre group and was created as a performing arts outlet for our community. It is an extension of Columbia Performing Arts Center in Nampa, Idaho. Spotlight Theatre's vision is to touch lives through the power of theatre. In embracing this groundbreaking story of how it is possible to live a 'normal' life, Spotlight Theatre is honored to add Next to Normal to their repertoire allowing them to reach new levels of artistic excellence. Next to Normal follows up Spotlight's recent successful runs of Grease, Hairspray, The Diary of Anne Frank, West Side Story and Footloose.
Winner of three Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Next to Normal portrays a family's agonizing and beautiful journey of pain, hope, anger, and love that lines a long road to recovery while coming to terms with its past and bravely facing its future. Next to Normal is an intense, emotional powerhouse of a musical that aims right for the heart. Featuring a compelling and surging pop rock score, this musical shatters through the fac?ade of a suburban family dealing with the direct and indirect effects of mental illness. The New York Times calls Next to Normal "a brave, breathtaking musical" and Rolling Stone said it "pushes Broadway in new directions."
