Kudos to you for getting a signature where Idina's name actually looks somewhat like Idina Menzel and not "Idian something" or "I-with a big squiggle"

Both the playbills that I have (Wicked and SWIWS) have the IMenzel squiggly business on it...but my RENT Bible, which I got signed at one of her P'Town concerts, says "To Kim, with love, Idina Menzel". It's pretty sweet. re: AUTOGRAPHS!!

I've never understood the appeal of autographs. Seriously, you guys who fervently (I apologize if I made up that word, I don't feel like finding a dictionary) collect them....explain?

It's just somebody's signiature on a picture or playbill. How is that THAT special? I sign things all the time. Checks, letters, applications, receits...and so do all those people.

I don't get it.

I don't actually know why I like autographs. I hate being all fangirly, but it happens. I mean, when I think about it, I know it's not special. But I think it's not the autograph itself, it's the symbol that autograph holds of the memory of meeting that person. :)

hey does anybody have a mailing address for Idina Menzel- I collect signatures from movies n broadway too and I really really want one of hers. I've tried to meet her so many times at shows and I met her once, but she wouldnt sign anything re: AUTOGRAPHS!! (I was all alone too) so now I'm on a mission, if you will, to get her autograph. It would mean the world if someone could help. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with RENTingFAME's post completely. For me, looking at the collection I have brings back the memories of my many journeys to New York City and those great shows I have seen.I have built quite a collection since September 2005.I will go show by show:

Playbill signed by John Lithgow,Gregory Jbara and Norbert Leo Butz

Feeling Electric (NYMF):

Playbill Signed by Anthony Rapp,Amy Spanger,Benjamin Schrader and Joe Cassidy.

Chicago:

Program signed by Brooke Shields

Signed Luba Mason postcard

See What I Wanna See:

Platbill signed by Idina Menzel(and a picture with her),Mary Testa,Aaron Lohr and Mark Kudisch

Playbill Signed by Henry Stram, Mary Testa, Aaron Lohr, William Michals, and Rosario Dawson(Who was in attendance the second time I saw the show on 12/1).

RENT:

Playbill signed by Justin Johnston and Ava Gaudet(and a picture with her).

Sweet Charity

Program signed by Christina Applegate and Wayne Knight

Playbill Signed by Christina Applegate

Dog Sees God:Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead:

Playbill signed by America Ferrara,Kelli Garner,Ari Graynor(and pictures with all of them), and Eliza Dushku (I'm hoping to get a picture with her when I go back to see the show again in 2 weeks).

I also have a few things from tours:

Evita:

Playbill singed by Sarah Litsinger and Keith Byron Kirk

Hairspray:

Playbill and Program signed by the entire cast and John Waters(This one has an amazing story behind it I will tell in a future post).

I dont usually stop and get autographs but the times I did were mostly because I was waiting around the stage door or lobby with some friends or whatever, and it was kinda like "Well Im here, why not?" plus its like a nice thing to have as a memory, as people have said before and you know, if they are willing to sign stuff, without people being fangirl-ish or in their face then why not. That being said, I have Idina Menzel, Mary Testa and Aaron Lohr from SWIWS and Karmine Alers from Rent. When I got Mary and Aaron's, Mary had just come out and there were like 5 or 6 people around her and I went to go tell her that I enjoyed her performance and she just kinda grabbed my playbill and signed it. She was very sweet. Aaron was just kind of hanging around in a corner and my friends and I went up to him and he was kinda like "Wow you want me to sign this?" and then stood there and talked to us for awhile.

OH and Im not trying to be an ass but..WHY would you get Rosario Dawson's signature on your SWIWS playbill when she wasn't even in the show??

FeelingElectric
#15re: AUTOGRAPHS!!
Posted: 1/6/06 at 8:45am

I should proably explain that.I thought it was strange to get Rosario's autograph on the playbill, but I had nothing else for her to sign.Everybody else was getting their playbills signed and I did not want to miss out on that moment.I may never get the chance to get to meet Rosario Dawson ever again and I absolutely loved her as Mimi in RENT.If it makes any more sense, she also signed the RENT ad in the playbill but then signed the front as well.

Reply to OddExoticCreature

it IS just a signature on a picture, but for me it's more. KNOWING that they personally took the time to sign this for me (and other fans) is awesome.

and then the day it comes in the mail, is AWESOME!

sorry, but autographs rock!

I like autographs...depending on the person and the show. I don't get them for the sake of getting some signature. It's more of a nice little memory of a performance.

Mine are, therefore, a bit limited. An assortment of cast members from Phantom and DRS. A few older ones I've had from tours and don't feel like looking for...got them when I was kid.

My favorites? Two signed photos from Hugh Panaro (as a sort of thank-you...one for the offer to do the web site, the other for some roses I brought), Hugh's "first Lestat autograph" on the cover on one of the novels. And my leather jacket. It was after his last show. It was late, he was mobbed, I wasn't going to bother...he's signed so much and I didn't have a program handy. He was tired and I was going to waste his time while I hunted for something. But there he was, Sharpie in hand...willing to. So, I said, "What the heck, sign my sleeve."

Since I pretty much live in said jacket, I had fun convincing older relatives that my jacket is not "ruined."

You Idina autograph is similar to mine, and it's readable. Back before I noticed them getting sloppier. But it's alright.

Out of curiousity, why do your official guides to the show not say "Playbill". I've noticed that through out many different theatres and areas of the country.

As of now I have
- Idina's on the same picture as yours.
- Kristin Chenoweth's as Kristin Yancey.
- Megan Hilty & Joey McIntyre on my Wicked Playbill.
- 12 leads of Hairspray on my Hairspray Playbill.
- Diana Kaarina and Karmine Alers on my Rent Playbill.
- Erin Dilly, Jan Maxwell, Ellen Marlow and Kevin Cahoon on my Chitty Playbill.
- Megan Hilty's on a picture of her and I. Came with a nice long letter to me.
- Jennifer Laura Thompson's on a picture of her as Glinda. Came with a nice short letter.
- Eden Espinosa's in Brooklyn.

I'm doing more someday. I haven't done them in over a year. Updated On: 1/6/06 at 03:57 PM

All the pictures I posted are from what actors have sent me. I like getting autographed pictures in the mail because its kind of like confirmation that that actor took the time to read my letter (of how much I like them and their work) and acted on it (by sending something back).

I also have other things signed by people I have met at the stage door. I like getting their autographs because it is just a momento (sp?) of meeting them and of seeing the show in general. But I normally take pictures with the actor after they autograph something. To me, the picture is worth a lot more than the autograph.

I need to add one to my list.I just received an autographed picture from Stephanie J. Block earlier today.I sent a letter last Monday to Washington D.C. where she is performing, and the return envelope with a beautiful signed picture of her as Elphaba came today.I have to agree with BtMartin25 as well.It makes you feel good that a performer took their time to make someone feel special.
