I just got back from seeing it (again) and found it to be even more profound, phenomenally moving, and thrilling. Naomi Watts' performance stood out much more and I realized how much realness and depth she brought to her role. This is an epic masterpiece that must be seen and why its not living up to Box Office expectations, I'll never understand. Tell all your friends and family this holiday weekend to make sure they see KING KONG.
::Raises hand:: Add me to the love list. I cried buckets at the end each time I saw the new movie. I've always been a fan of Naomi Watts, and this was a dream role for her to play in...at least from my point of view. You're right, she was really, really great. And this may come across very stalker-like but was I the only one who noticed that in scenes like when she was in the life boats with all the men, she just stood out like a bright light because she's THAT gorgeous?
Anyway I had always been a fan of the original King Kong and I was REALLY happy to hear they were going to make a revival of it. And the remake happened to be amazing.

awww Im excited to see this! Im going day after christmas! haha it's great to hear such positive things, Im not going to lie I was really doubting it at first but now im eager :)
i'm going the same day easilyamused! i was gonna go tonight, but i decided to hold off for then. i cannot wait. and i LOVE naomi... she's an amazing actress. cannot wait for this!!
i think the reson why it not doing well, is everyone thinks is gonna be sold out, so they dont bother. i know it sounds stupid , but it true,

1. You ever been to the monkey house at the zoo? Imagine what King Kong must smell like.
2. What does King Kong eat (other than natives)? How did they have fresh water for him to drink during the long boat trip? How come they never show him taking a dump or a pee?
3. What happens when he gets sexually aroused? How come King Kong never has visible genitalia???
Yeah, that's what I heard, too: that they did a check and found that the hull of the Venture would indeed be able to hold a gorilla of that size.
Jon, it's a fantasy. Those questions can asked about the original 1933 film, too, and that film is a classic. If you're willing to buy a story about a giant gorilla battling dinosaurs for the love of a blond New Yorker, you really have to leave your scepticism at the door.
And Zoneace, I thought you said you hated all special effects anyway. So you're hardly the one to judge these ones, which to a person who is knowledgeable about CGI and FX, are the best and most accomplished on film thus far.
I think if you're not the type of person to like fantastical adventure movies like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, JURASSIC PARK or the work of Harryhausen, then KING KONG isn't for you anyway. But the film does follow in that cinematic tradition, and takes it a new and exciting level.

While I loved the movie, I too questioned a few things. So let's say that yes indeed the hull of that boat would have fit King Kong..how did they PHYSICALLY move him into the boat? And when he fell off the Empire State Building...how did he NOT make a huge hole in the ground?
HOWEVER since I thought it an actually beautifully done movie and since it touched my heart in many ways I don't let that get in the way.

blue wizard, i never said i hated special effects, I said I think it's cheap to use a lot of them, and apparently the ones they used in this movie, too cheapen, were in fact cheap themselves, because they sucked. The scene where the Bracheasaurs are stampeading off the cliff, and you see jimmy jumping from piece of falling cliff to piece of falling cliff, its just a joke. Its so poorly done.
plus as I said, the script sucked.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.
If you thought this movie's special effects sucked, please name a movie where they better and still as ambitious in comparison. Kong and the recreation of 1930s Manhattan both represent a new benchmark of CGI. The stampede sequence may not have been as successfully executed as it could have been, but the rest of the film's set pieces -- the insect pit, the balletic battle between Kong and the T-Rexes, and the climax on top of the Empire State Building -- are heads and shoulders above anything we've ever seen.
I don't understand what you're proposing here; a return to stop-motion animation, or a man in a monkey suit like the disastrous 1976 remake?

Overall an enjoyable film, but not Best Picture material.
I love Naomi Watts, and I truly enjoyed her performance.
And can we talk about my new husband, Jamie Bell? (note avatar) Billy Elliot got hott!! And his acting is top notch. I think it was a smart move to step out of the spotlight for a while to avoid being type-cast. Glad to see him back on screen again.

FINALLY saw it tonight... i loved it! Naomi Watts is such an amazing actress. i seriously thought that since i saw her in Mulholland Drive.
My only complaint is that it did seem to drag a little when they were on Skull Island. when one thing was happening after another to them, it was like "ok, get to the part where they take Kong back to NY."
Outside of that, i have more respect for Peter Jackson. I didn't care for LOTR, so i was sick of him. he redeemed himself with this. he just needs to learn to tell stories a little shorter
I saw KING KONG again today, this time with my sister. I didn't know if she would like it (she's not into action-adventure movies), so I was surprised to find her weeping during the last hour of the film. She cried more during KONG than more conventional sad movies. I daresay she loved the film even more than I.
The film is just as enjoyable (perhaps even moreso) on subsequent viewings. A ripple of wonder still goes through my body when Kong beats his chest after defeating the last T-Rex, and the delicately-crafted relationship between Ann and Kong feels even more poignant. I'm also warming up to James Newton Howard's score; although I wish Peter Jackson kept Howard Shore on the production, JNH's music does have a few lovely themes, especially for the quieter scenes.
