I wan't aware there even was a recoring of this cast until recently. Anyone know where I can get a hold of a copy or at least hera clips from it? Who was the Beast? Was he any good? Thanks for any help you can offer!
You are young, life has been kind to you. You will learn.
And I don't think it's in print anymore. When I was in Australia earlier this year, I checked stores in both Melbourne and Sydney and no one had it. I don't know if it's just not mainstream enough or what, but I did check the larger stores (including Borders). And it didn't seem to me the Aussie stores had any smaller a selection of cast recordings than the American ones did. scroll down

I got my Australian cast recording last year for a lot cheaper then sixty bucks! wow... I can't imagine someone on Amazon paying that much, but then again, it is for Hugh. check around some on-line Australian distributors. that's where I got mine it was only 23 dollars. wish I had a link, but I don't remember where I purchased it...
it is still available quite readily in quite a few australian stores... (livin here myself...) but it may be out of print (in other words its only whats on the shelf...), not a huge ,arket for australian cast recordings, and I think this was the last studio cast recorded...
it wasn't the last one recorded... there's quite a few foreign recordings... one in Japanese recorded in 96 and then one recorded just this year of the Netherlands cast... they're all avaialble on www.soundofmusic.de. looks like they also have the Austrlaian cast recording in stock too so... there ya go. it's priced at 19,95 EUR... (don't ask me...)
I thought the Australian Cast Recording was pretty hit-or-miss. Hugh Jackman was pretty darn good, but Rachael Beck (as Belle) was weak and somewhat overwelmed by the music. The lady who played Mrs. Potts (I am blanking at the moment on who she was) was particularly grating with her fake plummie accent.
The ensamble songs though ("Belle", "Something There" & "Be Our Guest") where pretty enjoyable.
I meant it was the last australian studio cast recording, recorded (of a pro show at least) but I may be wrong (and I know there were some live recordings made)
Robyn Arthur played Mrs.Potts- and her vocals on 'Beauty and the Beast' are somewhat hard to listin to. especially "As the sun will rise"- i downloaded the entire album for free awhile ago. it's an okay listen to- sort of a mixed package.
Fun to hear Hugh Jackman, but the recording is generally king of boring and childish. It's as though everyone in the cast was told, "Remember--it's a fairy-tale cartoon onstage!" And yet, none of the subtlety of the vocals in the movie. REALLY don't like the Belle or Mrs. Potts.
In 2005, Disney and Stage Entertainment produced a new version of the show for Europe using brand new sets and costume. This new production has been staged in several countries and all the cast albums recorded include the song "A Change in Me" (in Dutch, Flemish, Spanish, Russian and Italian).
I don't understand why they recorded this score so many times and never record the overture! The overture is kind of short, but it's still one of my favorites and I wish one of them had preserved it.
