“Tonight felt more…lethargic in some ways. I’m not sure if it was because it was a two show day, their last preview, or just missing that buzz from when I saw the first preview.”

Holy crap, I was just about to post pretty much the EXACT same thing. Tonight was…fine. I was distracted by the entire row in front of me eating fried chicken during act one (which, if you were in the front mezz you HAVE to have been able to smell) but I was reminded of why I didn’t really care for the original production much after having quite enjoyed that first preview.

As someone who was pretty much completely new to the show, I loved it at today's matinee. I thought everyone was firing on all cylinders, and the audience was extremely receptive. There was also a very fun ad lib moment when the knight's head popped off before the rabbit attacked him, and Taran Killam said something like, "That's how powerful the rabbit is. He can kill people with his mind!," after which the rest of the cast started cracking up. I had a great time, and already have a to see Alex Brightman's first show, but I would definitely see it again before or after that.

It wasn’t ideal up close, but seeing the whole picture, it looked like a basic high school set and I repeat my point that, for a show that’s being revived in a theatre that is LARGER THAN THE ONE WHERE THE ORIGINAL WAS, the lack of a scaled up set is inexcusable"

Funny, I thought the set looked good from the rear mezzanine.  I remember being disappointed by the set in the original production as it didn’t deliver the spectacle I was expecting (and remember the “very expensive forest” being cheaper-looking than in this production).  Perhaps I’m just more used to downscaled sets in 2023 than I was circa 2006.

Honestly, hearing all these comments about the set looking cheap really doesn't sound like much of a dealbreaker for me. The Pythons tended to derive a lot of their humor from being blatantly low-budget, so having a minimalist set seems appropriate for this particular show. Plus, a lackluster set personally doesn't bother me that much as long as the show itself is good (which I know this one is) and the performances are strong. I'm still excited to see this later this month as my first Broadway experience!

From the rear orchestra, I thought the set looked perfectly fine. Not elaborate or complex, but not cheap-looking, either, particularly the projections, which I thought were pretty great.
