I'm not sure when it was announced but I just became aware of this recording today. It will feature Kelli O'Hara, Ben Davis and John Grisetti (who starred in the 2014 NY production), set for release September 16 on Ghostlight.
In the thread related to that production it was hailed as the worst musical ever produced by at least one BWW member and utterly pointless by another. There was also a bizarre thread about a studio recording being done with Kelli and Cheyenne Jackson around 2009. Those two were also rumoured to be starring in a production the previous year (according to another thread).
The plot from Ghostlight:
Selma Chargesse is torn between her two loves—great wealth and idealism and the two men in her life that offer her one or the other–Wilmer the naïve young man in search of “the key” and O.O. Martinas, the proprietor of the world’s largest meat department store. Could she have both? It’s that rare musical ready for prime time that tugs at the heart and tickles the funny bone. Any way you slice it, Red Eye of Love is red meat for musical theater lovers and that’s no bum steer!
Has anyone heard ANYTHING about this project? Is anyone excited? Appalled? Shocked to hear of its existence?
