Any ideas what's next for the Longacre Theatre?

Smokey Joe's Cafe? The Master Builder? Gotta Dance?

Has anyone heard about anything going into the theater? It's been dark for a while now. Any guesses?

^ Yup. And it's actually quite astounding how long this house has been vacant for.

It's one of my favorite theaters and with all the new shows trying to come in, I too am amazed that no show has taken it up yet. Unless something has been booked and they have just been holding out on announcing.

More suited for plays.

As one poster said The Old Vic's The Master Builder or maybe the National Theatre's People, Places and Things or perhaps Royal Court's The Hangman?

The Master Builder does seem like the most likely fit...

Shocking how long this theater has been empty...

The Neil Simon was open almost a whole year.

Do you suppose we will see an announcement soon? I wonder if the long wait indicates that they have not booked a show yet.

I did say play earlier on,

But now wonder if Dear Evan Hansen will go in there?

I think the Longacre is a little big for Dear Evan Hansen.

Is there still any bite for People Places and Things now that Denise didn't win the TONY? She's incredible in both pieces, but I can't imagine doing either show 8x a week. She must be exhausted.

I'm predicting a limited-run play for the fall, followed by Hadestown in the spring.

My guesses are Moulin Rouge, Jagged Little Pill, or Hadestown.

I don't know how big these planned revivals of Crazy for You or The Secret Garden are suppose to be from a production standpoint, so it's hard to tell if the Longacre would be a fit for either one of them.

Though Michael Riedel did report last week that there were several New York agents, theater owners, and producers coming down to Washington, D.C. to check out the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s production of Camelot.

Moulin Rouge! is most likely going to need a much bigger theatre than the Longacre.

Hadestown deserves better.

Someone on here mentioned Moulin Rouge is circling the Hirschfeld.  Jagged Little Pill or Hadestown would make sense for the Longacre or Walter Kerr (or... the Belasco or Nederlander if their shows fold quickly).

There's also Tootsie –– though Scott Ellis is also directing Kiss Me Kate (previews 2/14, opening 3/14), so Tootsie would probably have to start previews in very early January, or open at the very end of April.

Crazy For You to the Winter Garden in the spring?

I imagine that'll be too big for the Longacre.

Maybe The Minutes will finally find its home here.

FYI, The Longacre has ~1100 seats, and typically houses plays or smaller musicals. I feel like A Bronx Tale or Allegiance are the largest shows that have been in it. And I don't think of them as particularly huge...

I think there's no way Moulin Rouge would fit in there.
