Hello, everyone. I'm a newly registered user, but I have been reading you for a while.

I have some questions and I think this is the only place I could get the answers, so, please help me.

Does anyone here knows how much money was invested in making the Wicked cast album?

Also, does anyone know if recordings of other countries uses the same instrumental tracks as the OBCR? Since they sound all pretty much the same and that's very different from the show itself. Or if every country has to record their own tracks...

Thanks!

In the past you got a new orchestra track with each new cast recording, but lately this seems to be less common. Mind you I have not bought many international recordings lately. But it is done

Wicked german and Japan recordings use the broadway recording tracks.

Lion King Dutch, French and Spanish recordings use the German tracks

Both Phantom Korean recordings aswell as the Mexican one use the Canadian tracks.

If you have the actual CD you can sometimes tell as there will be no credits at all for the orchestra on the recording. My guess is it is somewhat a cost saving measure but I also assume that you have to have some contractual thing going on when the first recording is made that allows the producers to reuse and un-credit the tracks.

plus side... more recordings (in theory)

negative side...it is actually nice to hear the score played differently from recording to recording

per multiple articles interviewing producers, average broadway cast recordings are around $300,000  currently it may have been a a bit less 12 years ago with Wicked counting for inflation....

Oh, thank you very much!

The reason to know these informations is that with Wicked coming to Brazil, we are looking for a change and demanding a cast recording to be released by the brazilian cast, since this is pretty uncommon (and we have many fantastic productions that come and go being completely unregistered).

If you can help us signing this petition, that would be great!

I believe the cost of producing an OCR is actually closer to $500,000.

There was an article on this topic a few months (I think it was the NYT, but I'm not 100% positive) and that was the general figure they mentioned.

....but the world goes 'round

rodrigo_ca, "demanding" a cast recording or making a petition is not going to get you anywhere. If you want a cast album, raise the money. Wicked and its producers have no obligation to you.

The point of "demanding" is showing them that they would get their money back and more if they would do it, but I get your point.

I will wait till january for the cast announcement so I can talk to them and see how can we start. Perhaps a few autographs on the album?

Thanks for the responses!

How much of the math have you done for them? It would at least come across as impressive.
