I think that announcement is a huge mistake in terms of the show getting Tony Award nominations. It is so obvious that Harvey wants to woo that block of voters, who primarily vote for shows booking tours. It is a desperate attempt to get those votes.
I fear it will backfire with the nominating committee, however, who will see through it. He may have just shot himself in the foot.

This is one way to try to get touring voters to vote for you I guess

We will see but he is such a money oriented producer and a dick
"They announced their cast recording a while ago... I think his plan will work. This show will do extremely well on tour. "
The concept album is happening but there's never been an announcement about the cast recording. it'll surely happen (Harvey's gotta get them $$$), bit it hasn't been made official.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
odds are SOMETHING ROTTEN will tour as well, regardless of a Tony win for Best New Musical. FUN HOME is another story, we'll see if it tours.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Announcing a planned tour during Tony season is not one way to get the road presenters' votes. It is the only way to directly try for their votes. Sometimes it even works.
Others that may possibly/probably tour:
Something Rotten
maybe Honeymoon in Vegas - if they can get the right stars
An American in Paris

It's been all but confirmed that it's still happening. The FB admins keep saying to "stay tuned", Jordan posted about it, Carolee said it was happening in the opening night video, there was that blurb in the Billboard article. Really, all we're waiting for is a release date.

This happens every year. Maybe not before noms, but its hardly a new strategy.
And I'm not so sure if winning is his goal. I'm pretty sure its succeeding: and the box office proves or disproves that.

This screams like a blatant attempt to get that final Best Musical nomination slot. We all know Finding Neverland is selling well on Broadway and that it'll do well on tour. The news could've waited.
I think Fun Home will have a co-production/mini-tour of major regional houses: Mark Taper, Seattle Rep, The Alley, etc. The giant 3,000 seat roadhouses of your typical Production-level tour would kill the show.
You're right mama - I don't think he cares if he wins or not, per say, but if he makes a profit. That's all he's here for.
It'll tour, and it'll do well. Simple as that.
As for the cast recording: of all shows to NOT have one… this isn't one of 'em. This guy is gonna milk every dirty little penny he can out of this show.

As long as it means a cast album, I will welcome said milking.

I don't care specifically for Harvey Weinstein, but I don't understand the attitude towards him. He wants to make money? Well, I'd say all producers want to make money. If a producer starts a project with the idea of losing money, maybe they shouldn't be in the business. They say Weinstein is hard to work with (and for). Well, then let's be glad we don't. He has a musical that's making over a million $ every week, regardless of reviews. It's natural they want to profit from it.
