Just curious to hear what is everyone's favourite Jazzy Musical theatre number. I think mine would be Hollywood from Grand Hotel and Blow Gabrielle Blow from Anything Goes.
God, that's an awfully broad question given how much of an influence jazz was (is?) on musical theatre composition. But, I dunno, everything that Kander & Ebb wrote?
Oh wow, this a huge list for me, but I think I'll break it down by composer: Kander and Ebb wise, I would go with either Hit it, Lorraine from 70, Girls, 70 or Loopin' the Loop from Chicago For Cole Porter, either Too Darn Hot from Kiss Me, Kate or You're the Top from Anything Goes For George Gershwin, Fascinating Rhythm from Lady, Be Good For Bernstein, The Wrong Note Rag from Wonderful Town I also really like The Riviera from The Boy Friend, Jazz Baby from Thoroughly Modern Millie (The Carol Channing version), and Uptown and Dry from LaChiusa's The Wild Party (only good score he ever wrote)
I also highly recommend Berlin's Puttin' on the Ritz, which has a musical theatre edge to it though was not written for a Broadway show. I like Judy Garland's cover of it best.
