Hi! My seven-year-old daughter really wants to see If/Then because she loves Idina Menzel, but I see it's not recommended for children under 12. Can anyone tell me what bad language is in it? She's seen The Wedding Singer, so I'm gauging it against that. Please PM me if you would like. Thank you!

One of the songs is called 'What the F*ck?' and it's repeated throughout the song a number of times.

I dont think she'd be into it, its adult themes and two stories going on at one time. It would be hard for her to follow.

okay, since everyone is chiming in, I am 60+ and I was bored. I had no problem following the different story lines. There was nothing going on that I found interesting enough to warrant my attention for 2.5 hours. And from little I remember of the show, Yes there are some heavy adult themes, Abortion to name one.

To offer another opinion, I loved the show. I was engaged the entire time and hope to see it again soon. With that said, I would not recommend it for a 7 year-old. I think all that she would find engaging is the novelty of seeing Idina on stage. There's not really any big, splashy dance numbers or over-the-top sets to admire, which are things that I feel would hold the attention of a child in her age group.

Other then Idina, I can't think of any aspect of the show that would appeal to a young child. The themes are mature, there's no big glittery dance number, and I don't think the material relates to the life of a 7 year old. There's the what the F song, but there are a few other f-bombs as well.

12 and up seems just about right for the show's minimum age.

Yep. Take her to Matilda. This is not the show for a child.

If/Then isn't for kids, and I say that as a huge fan of If/Then.

Also a fan of the show and definitely think it is not appropriate for young kids. Lots of language and the subject matter won't interest them. Actually had a 6 year old sitting next to me when I saw the show in dc. Her mom definitely regretted bringing her.

It's an adult musical, with very adult themes and language. The last thing anyone needs is your 7 year old child asking you what is going on every 5 seconds and disrupting other patrons. 12 and up.

I loved the show and will see it again. I thought it was thought provoking, great cast with an amazing score but I would say it would fly over a 7 year's old head. I would say pass on this and wait for Idina to tour again and take your daughter to that - but by all means you go !

I personally loved If/Then, but a 7-year-old would be bored out of their mind. Beyond any language that's used, it's a musical about adults doing adult things and I don't think there's anything for a kid that young to latch onto or find terribly engaging.

My 14 year old has seen the show 5 times. She understands the show and loves it, but I cannot imagine that she would have gotten anything out of it at 7 years old! Besides the WTF song, If/Then has a lot of sex talk, affairs, abortion, and it is all adults onstage. The songs are story songs so there's nothing to hold a 7 year old's interest. My daughter recently admitted that she didn't understand Wicked when we first saw it 4 years ago (at ten) because she didn't know what the guy with the green elixir had to with Elphaba. Take your kid to Cinderella, Aladdin, Lion King or something designed for kids.

Heck, I'm far beyond 7, and I was pretty bored. Even at TDF prices, I kind of felt ripped off.

I did get to see Curtis Holbrook, whom I adore, but felt like he was simply a Rapp duplicate. (even though I hadn't seen him, it is exactly what I would have envisioned with Rapp.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm 20 and I enjoyed the show. It is definitely not suitable for a 7 year old. Just thinking back to when I was 7 I know that I would not have appreciated the show because 7 is an age where you are far from understanding adult themes. The storyline would go over her head and so would the subject matter. With the story switching back and forth, it would be confusing.
I'd recommend the show for 13 and over.

Hopefully Idina will do another concert someday and that would be a suitable event for your child.
