"I'd rather not do that because then I may cut an important part of the poster off." I am confused. If you print a 14x22 size image on 16x24 piece of paper- how is something from that poster getting cut off??
I believe the general consensus is that you should print 14x22 in the center of the 16x24, with white space filling up whatever ISN’T the image, and just cut out the white space.
