I was under the impression the $35 tickets were not in advance like Inishmaan did. That is the rush ticket price. But you should call Telecharge and ask.
I booked my ticket just after midnite this morning -- tho I started at 12:01 and didn't actually get a ticket till almost 01:00. I kept getting kicked out with error messages from Telecharge, even after I'd put in my credit card info, and then had to wait for the ticket I wanted to be released
I found a half-decent seat (single ticket) in Row E in January, which I booked, and one I didn't take in December in Row C (far to the side). Other than those 2, it was Row F or back, just as it was during the pre-sale. I had checked out the tickets the day before, and didn't see any new choices after the general sale began
It was a VERY frustrating hour, but I'm glad I didn't give up. I will be sad if better tickets come available later on....

That is really deceiving/strange that they would list $35 on the website when those are apparently just rush tickets. Rush ticket prices are never listed when it comes to price ranges for tickets, no? Anyway, whoever is spending $175 for 80 minutes is out of their mind. On the plus side, perhaps I'll just wait outside the theatre on a nightly basis in a search for dumb sugar daddies.
Detailed Pricing Information Orchestra: $175.00 Orchestra Far Side Rows AA & G (200s): $35.00
The regular version however only shows ticket pricing at $175 for non-premium seating. That would lend one to believe that these seats are available for purchase when they aren't, but at the very least it's an indicator of where the rush tickets will most likely be located.
I was looking for a seat for my November trip, and the best that I was able to find was on the evening of November 6th, seat G232. It's in the back row on the right side, but it looks like it's still a decent seat. Hope so, because I've never been in that theater, so don't know from experience.
The official press release (Sonia Friedman Productions) said the following :
>>>LIMITED NUMBER OF $35 DAY OF SEATS AND $30 STANDING ROOM WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL PERFORMANCES
A limited number of $35 day-of seats will be available for every performance of THE RIVER. When performances are sold out, $30 standing room tickets will also be available. Further details will be announced shortly.<<<
Also, Circle in the Square is a small venue and has amphitheatre seating, so maybe even last row seating will not be bad. It looks like many of the seats closer to the stage have not been released.
Please Note: Tickets to The River are not available at the Box Office at this time. Tickets will be available at the Box Office beginning September 19.<<<<
Is the length of a show any indicator of its worth? I'd say a successful 80 minute show with a popular star is worth more than a 3 hour musical that misfires. I'm appalled by the high prices charged these days as much as anyone, but honestly, years later the cost of the ticket won't matter much compared to the memory of having seen a great show with a star performance. (Of course, a lousy show is too expensive at any cost.)
