These are the first recordings I listened this year. The first is right up my alley, with a delightful funny score by Gene de Paul & Johnny Mercer. The second has a rock score by various composers and the problem is I don’t enjoy rock. Yes, musically I’m very narrow-minded. Broaden your musical horizons my friend...there's a lot of good stuff out there just waiting to be discovered. Don't close yourself off. JMO.

I had no idea A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN was being recorded. Usually I keep up pretty well with cast recodings, but this one totally got by me.

I have to add that the CD of LI'L ABNER much improves the LP sound. The dialogue segments on the Lp edition were drenched in reverb sounding like the audio was coming from the back of a large movie theatre. On the new CD edition much of that has been removed.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
