The choices of star casting are endless for this one, and there are plenty of supporting roles for the stage veterans.

Michael B. was right all along with this rumor. PETER PAN it is. Makes plenty of sense. All of those moaning and groaning will tune in this December. So you can write "ugh" or "pass!" all you want. Doesn't make a damn bit of difference..

wouldn't mind seeing the girl that played Leisel in SOM play Wendy. (or did someone already suggest that? I have no idea what her name is.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

If they want to go with a male Peter, I tend to agree with CapnHook (the BWW poster, not the character). It seems much more likely that they'd try to cast a very big name as Hook and go with a relative unknown (or, at least, not a household name) for Peter.

I know some of us think we're living in a post-labels, post-homophobia world in which "heteroflexible" young men have no problem experimenting and straight allies are in abundance, but I can't imagine any young male star of note being advised by his handlers to take this role. "Oh, yes, your career's going great, but what you need to do now is put on some green tights, and fly -- kinda -- around a soundstage like a fey young pixie boy-man thing." Call me cynical, but I don't see that happening with anyone who is really a name.

I'm not a huge fan of Pink, but if they were to reconsider casting a female, I think she's a great suggestion. She's already proven her atheltic and flying abilities on prior award shows -- all while singing live.

Yes, Mama. Someone had said it was "guaranteed" (ha! yeah right!) that she would play Wendy. I suppose it's possible but since she is not a marquee name, I imagine Craig & Neil will search for fresh blood.

Meh. I'm really not as excited for this as I was for The Sound of Music Live, but I'll still watch! Was hoping for Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella as well, but maybe it'll happen after the show closes and the upcoming tour ends. West Side Story would've been good too.

Shows like THE KING AND I, WEST SIDE STORY, and even GREASE had no shot. It had to be something sugary sweet for the whole family.

I think it would be nice little homage if they got Cathy Rigby or Sandy Duncan to play Mrs. Darling, or even the narrator.

I just hope they don't cast a white girl as Tiger Lily.

Anyone know if they're using the original version or the revised version of the show?

I personally will skip this one, and I do have a feeling we will see a drop in the rate of viewers.

As someone who's voiced disappointment, let me say I will totally watch. Just because I want to lend my viewership to "live theater" on television. I want to make these things successful so that someday I can hopefully see something I want to see. Musical theater is my passion so I'll support it whether I'm happy with the way it's being done or not. That being said, I'm a 25 year old male. I'm not their target demographic. I hope with continued success they can add a second or third broadcast to the the year and open up options for material that more of us want to see. A summer or fall broadcast that doesn't have to be so sugary sweet. I'd love something like a Halloween broadcast of Little Shop or a summertime airing of Grease. That is why I'll support Peter Pan despite my less than enthusiastic initial response.

I'm majorly disappionted. I've never been terribly fond of this version of the story. I guess I was deluding myself thinking it would ever be anything else.

I'll watch it, and probably enjoy it, but I'm still disappointed. And I agree that I don't see it being nearly as successful as THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE.

I agree it seems to be unlikely it would be a famous actor as Peter, since who could that be? If you want the crossover appeal of Carrie Underwood, it would have to be someone as big, like Beiber - who would never do it.

I immediately thought Pink, and I think that's a sensational idea.

But I bet they do get a boy for Peter, and perhaps Kevin Kline as Hook?

Kelsey Grammer as Hook/Darling.

Kristin Bell as Peter - she'll bring in the pre-teens who love "Frozen".

Did you all miss the part where the producers said they will be casting a MALE as Peter Pan?

Not excited about this choice at all, but it's certainly expected.

If they can actually draw "average" TV viewers in to watch it, you're going to hear a lot about the un-PC Indians, and the lame flying effects ... unless they work to change both and surprise us.

How could you possibly see that? What shred of evidence exists that could even suggest this nearly a year away from the broadcast?

What the hell are they going to do with "Ugg-a-Wugg"?

Ugh, is it gonna be one of those One Direction kids? Or even worse, a Jonas brother?

The fact that Peter Pan has been done twice before, I don't think it will be popular as the sound of music.
Also The Sound of Music is somehow a story that is loved by young and old. It is
not a fairy-tale. We will just have to wait and see how this will be worked out but
personally not excited at all.

I think it's a wonderful choice - for the vast majority of TV viewers, who aren't a bunch of "theatre snobs" like we are who are proclaiming this as a boring choice.

And, most importantly, Bravo to NBC for continuing to support live theatre on broadcast television. It's already a win in my book, on that point alone.

(PS - I know the short list of performers NBC is talking to. I'm really looking forward to it!)
