Is always a crap shoot when you pull someone out of the audience to sing with you, and Kristin couldn't have made a better choice!
But why people are carrying on like it was some huge shock is beyond me.

My bf and I both shed a tear for her not because of her beautiful voice but because of what a thrill it must have been for her to sing in front of 10,000 people with Kristin. It was a goosebump-inducing moment and she deserved the standing ovation the crowd gave.
I could swear it was the same girl both nights. But what do I know? Show was beautiful. Except for the crap with the Ave Q puppets. That cheapened the evening.
Seems like these girls were picked out in advance.

Oh for sure. This is directed by Richard J Alexander. Has his touch all over it. Beautiful show. They just needed to cut the shtick with the puppets. And the video montage at the beginning of act 2 looked cheap and badly put together.
I was there the first night too. The audience went wild! I was hoping she'd pick a kid (I've seen her do that before and it's always so cute) but I don't think anyone in the entire place was disappointed. What an amazing moment for her!
To anyone else that was there.. what did you think of the video montage at the beginning of Act 2 ? I thought it was odd and poorly put together. I wonder if what we saw was a product of copyright issues? The Dolly Parton segment was fun and cute. Loved the Annie Get Your Gun number with the boys. "Smile "was beautiful. This is the 4th time this song has been sung in the Bowl this summer within a few weeks. Tony Benett, Natalie Cole, Diana Ross and now Kristin. Beautiful every single time.
But the show could just shave off a slice of shtick. The Madeline Khan number should have gone over better. It dragged!
I thought the montage was ok. It did look quickly put together but most people weren't really paying attention at that point yet. I agree with the Avenue Q schtick. While I thought it was funny, it wasn't appropriate for the bowl and brought down the class.
Most people weren't really paying attention? What do you mean? I was paying attention. The lights were down, the orchestra was playing. How could you not be paying attention?

Funny story about the Ave Q shtik - there were a few people around me who freaked out thinking her female background singer was Idina Menzel making a surprise appearance when she first came out with the puppet in front of her face.
Overall I didn't have a problem with it. Was it necessary? Probably not. Did it read better when I saw it at the Greek Theatre. Yes. I think the only thing I could've done without was the disinfectant joke.
And what was the deal with her having her back ups singers introducing themselves?
That always tells me that they can't remember, or pronounce someone's name.
