Her replacement's bio said "She's been in school productions of West Side Story and The Mikkado." So she's never done a professional theater production?!
I love Beverly Knight, shes pretty well known in the UK as a singer, amazing voice but no has never acted. Sadly though im not sure even she could get me to see this again, once was enough.
Its 6 x a week, Heather didnt do 8 shows (if you were lucky enough to see her). No matinees, only evening performances which is a bit rubbish and unusual for London. Usually an alternate in London would do a mid week evening and the mid week matinee
I guess I was lucky enough to see her. I hope they keep the same staging as London also. I really liked some of the reveals, and set changes. and the same beginning, WOW.
See I found the set and staging a huge disappointment, for a thriller there is no tension and some of the direction is quite dull and almost a bit lazy/bland.
It was the second show I saw in London. Matilda was first and after Matilda anything would look good. (Sorry, but I hate Matilda). EDIT Maybe that last part should go under unpopular Broadway opinions thread.
I saw this a couple of months ago in London and expected to hate it except for Heather's singing, but found myself liking it. I thought with a stronger directorial focus it would be received very well on Broadway.
My only major flaws were are cheap and awful the costumes looked. She needed Beyonce level costumes and gowns, and she always seemed to be in cheap rentals. Even her finale and bows dresses seemed like cheap JC Penny prom dresses. I also thought the giant turning cabin set was completely stupid and unnecessary especially since it's used for a scene. They should just use the space/money to make her "mansion" more than a wall of windows.
I saw this last week and thought it was terrible, except for the vocals. The only acting on the stage was from the woman playing Nikki, and her plot is idiotic, so that is a big feat, and the stalker was good. Beverly is a top notch vocalist, but the same cant be said about her acting. I guess it's possible that Headley brought the show to life, but this version was dull and laughable in many spots. It was my first show in London and was the worst experience I had there. LOVED London, but this show stank. JMO, of course.

Still cant believe they built that house set piece for about 15 minutes of stage time
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Well, those 15 minutes felt like an eternity, so....

The set looked small, it took up just the middle part of the stage and the scene transitions would utilize black panels that would open and close like the shutter of a camera. It looked strange when you think of how massive the stage area of the Adelphi is. From what I remember of that fateful night on my London trip last year, the first screen onstage before the show starts has a moving graphic of smoke, similar to smoke coming from a gun. The concert scenes were very sparse and the whole staging of the show reminded me of Ghost the Musical without Pepper's Ghost and the dazzling lights. And to top it off, there's an extended karaoke scene with the words to "How Will I Know" emblazoned across the top of the stage in giant, colorful letters.
I left soon thereafter to shop at the Tesco across the street.
The show is mediocre and even Heather couldn't save it. I was somehow disappointed. Could have been so much better. At least the dayseats in front row are fantastic.
