Hi Everyone,
I am trying to hold a reading of a musical in Manhattan and am looking for space. It is only a one day rental and I hope to find either a nice studio/space, studio theater, theater with at least 60 seat capacity (ideally like 75-90). I've contacted shetler studios for their Penthouse 1/theatre 54 which is booked, but would have been ideal. Especially the price!

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a map of the theaters in Manhattan, or a list somewhere, or something like that? The internet has been difficult and I've had better luck just walking the streets and stumbling on off bway theaters.

Sorry for the random question on this message board, but I am trying to exhaust my options before breaking the bank on a space I could have found for much cheaper.

Thanks!

Have you tried Pearl Studios or Ripley-Grier?

For a reading of a musical, I always find studios more helpful than a theatre space. The acoustics can't be beat...even when you get all the bodies into the room.

Although I have not put together something like that for about ten years, i always saw
small theater space advertised on the back page of Backstage. You might buy one, or go to their on line web site---or just google, off off Broadway small spaces

Look into some universities, like NYU, Marymount, CUNY Hunter, etc. I know that Steinhardt and Tisch (two schools within NYU) have black boxes and studios. I think they rent them out to the public.

Try the York Theatre at St. Peter's, as well as The Signature

Try SPACE ON WHITE. It's down in Tribeca/Soho area, but super easy to get to from the N, R, Q. And it's a nice space that a lot of people don't know about. I've had some rehearsals/auditions there and they've got a big room downstairs and a couple other big-ish rooms.
