I wonder if this show will lose some of its energy in a concert setting. For me, its energy was a big part of what made it so compelling.

Actually the ticket office the In the Heights $30 tickets are being sold is NOT in the Heights but in Inwood. I grew up there and used to pass that building on the way to school everyday.

The point of the 30$ tickets being available to Northern Manhattan residents is to bring a community into the theatre that typically doesn't experience it and to do it at a price point that's affordable.

Not so you can get your friend going to a four-year school and paying 30k+ a year in tuition a cheap ticket to fangirl Mandy Gonzalez. Gross.

Kelly, I hope you weren't referring to my comments, cuz I am actually damn poor, live in the neighborhood, and don't have any friends paying expensive tuition, so I'm not sure what that's all about?

Then why exactly do you need extra tickets? They're for locals to the area to experience the show. There are plenty of regularly priced tickets available for those who don't qualify.

I highly doubt Lin is putting this on so people who have already seen the show multiple times/crazy theatre nerds can eat up all the 30$ tickets. I do hope actual native New Yorkers and Washington Heights natives get a chance to pick up some of the seats after you lot have picked through them.

Geez, I have no desire to "pick through them," it would just be nice to bring at least one friend to share the show with! And you're making a LOT of assumptions about me and who my friends might be, you have no idea.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong and you and your friends are in, in fact, a low-income native New Yorkers who have never experienced this show onstage before.

I'm low-income, and just because I wasn't born in NYC doesn't make me any less of a New Yorker...and I was lucky enough to see the show twice (thanks to their cheap lotto tix, and comps), but many of my friends never had a chance to see it, and are also poor. (Btw, none of us are "Mandy Gonzalez fangirls".) Done judging me now? Sheesh! I never suggested I was entitled to loads of tickets.

Not being born in NYC does in fact make you less of a New Yorker. I'm over this now. I hope some actual Heights natives get to see this show, I'm sure it will be a wonderful evening.

By your "logic" half of my neighbors in the Heights apparently wouldn't deserve affordable tickets, because they were born in the Dominican Republic; I guess they're not real New Yorkers to you either.

Aren't a lot of people from the Heights Dominican transplants?

I think suggesting that the uptown tickets are meant to be available only to native New Yorkers who like, present birth certificates and legal documentation proving they never lived below 155th St. upon purchasing tickets is a bit much. By that logic, Lin shouldn't be eligible for $30 tickets because he's not a native of Washington Heights, or his grandmother because she was born in Puerto Rico and not uptown. Immigrants and people who move uptown and become a part of the community should be just as eligible if they're interested.

The point is to raise money for arts programs. Let's keep some perspective here. If a Mandy Gonzalez fan is so desperate that they sublet uptown for the month to be eligible for tickets, then whatever, it still goes towards a good cause.

H*ll, Lin has made no secret of the fact his 'hood is in fact Inwood, but that lyrically that just didn't work out as well as Washington Heights. I am glad this family of a cast cares enough about the community and each other that they are coming together for a night to benefit the community they portrayed on stage. And I'm bringing extra cash, because I have no doubt they'll be collecting at the event for the community as well...

I never suggested that only native NY-ers should be allowed for tickets. I suggested that crazy theatre fans are not the intended target of the lower priced tickets. I am sure the point of allowing Heights residents those tickets is so that lower-income families who may not have been able to see the show on Broadway can see a show about their community and experience the show and the music and the art at a price that won't break the bank.

The higher-priced tickets are for raising money and IMO, if you're a true fan of the show, you would save your pennies and pony up and REALLY show support.

Yes, but if that is the target for the $30 ticket (and I agree that it is), those are exactly the people who might bring a spouse/significant other/friend but would simply choose to not go if it means sitting by themselves. Yes, you could go down to the ticket office with spouse in tow to make sure you get two together, but let's be realistic here...

Grumpyoptimist, I'm not commenting on the one ticket per ID policy, I'm just speaking generally. For the most part, I think allowing a pair of tickets is generally a better policy than singles only, but at the same time, I do see the logic in assuming that by allowing pairs, people who are not local to the area could abuse the system.

Again, you're assuming that I actually have/make enough money that I can afford to just "save up my pennies" to pay more. I don't. I would if I could, but since I can't I am grateful for these $30 tix allowing me to attend this event in my neighborhood!

I got my tickets Friday and am very excited for this. I also made sure I paid the most expensive price I could get just so Kelly wouldn't come after me next for not being born in New York and thus probably should be ashamed to even step foot in this concert or even dare to glance down at the $30 seats.

I actually thought this was going to be the actual show like I saw on Broadway and not just a concert.

The irony of this statement in a thread about this particular show....

What about those of us who would travel from out of state to attend this event if we could afford to? Should we not be allowed to enjoy the concert or support the community since we're not from there? Geez... Shouldn't a show about the power of community teach us to love one another and not tear each other apart?
