I was wondering what the cut song "deeply furious" from spiderman was about. I heard it was the 11 o'clock number and it was crazy and it had to do with shoes. Did anyone see it live?

I did. It was pretty crazy, but at the same time is was kind of bland. I didn't mind it as much as others posters here did, but I would never say it was a good song.

It wasn't that late in the show, actually. It was in act 2 though, and it involved Arachne being jealous of Mary Jane because she could wear shoes. So she, and a bunch of spider-women chorus girls did a modelling number with different types of shoes. To this day, it was one of the single stupidest, and idiotic numbers I've ever had to suffer through on stage. It was appalling.

I saw this catastrophe. At one point I remember just laughing like a nut job because I couldn't handle the craziness on stage.

I actually never knew the name of that song because I always just called it "The Shoe Song." You do not want to see that ever. Trust me.

I don't think Arachne was jealous of Mary Jane- Arachne needed to take human form so that she could go visit JJ, the head of The Daily Bugle. Spider-Man and the Sinister Six weren't doing as she wished so she was going to take matters into her own hands. That's when she commanded her minion spiders to, "Bring me my shoes!!" A giant pile of shoes (a flat set piece, not an actual pile) slide on stage. They all sang while putting shoes on her spider legs.

The next scene, which is also now cut, showed Arachne visiting JJ in a femme fatale outfit and demanding he print the stories she wanted.

In the original version Arachne was the second lead, and at the first preview IIRC she had the second to last bow after Mary Jane. Her part was huge. She was kind of Spider-Man's guide and mentor in act one, but then turned on him and became the villain in act two. There was a huge fight scene between Arachne and Spider-Man at the end of the show. The Green Goblin was already dead so it was Arachne who kidnapped Mary Jane. A roped webbing came down like a curtain and Spider-Man and Arachne had a drawn out choreographed fight. (This fight was added after the first preview.)

Also added late in 1.0 was a dream sequence with Arachne in a wedding dress and she got married to Spider-Man. It was very weird.

I'm sure there's an appropriate time for the shoe song. They could wedge it in. It could pump up some dull moments that are, well, flat.

Sounds like it had sole. Shame they kicked it out. Was there much of a sandal when it was cut? I miss that Arachnae character- hope they sneaker back in for the tour. One thing for sure- Julie really worked hard on that show- you cant call her a loafer. I hate to pump you for more details, but galoshes, that number sounds like it should be wedged back in.

A friend of mine was walking on 43rd behind The Hilton during the break between 1.0 and 2.0. He sent me an awesome pic of the crew doing the loadout of the old set pieces and he saw them putting the shoes in the back of a truck. I think I still have it saved somewhere on my computer. If I find it I'll post it.

I may be mistaken, but I think you can still hear strains of the chorus to "Deeply Furious" in the current show. The "can you resist a spider kiss" melody pops up somewhere as underscoring or something. At least "Deeply Furious" was more tuneful than the loud and painful "Think Again," which was the song Arachne sang as she flew in from the balcony.

Arachne had a large role in act one, but she absolutely took over the show in act two. She sang more songs than both Mary Jane and Peter. It's weird seeing the show now and seeing her role reduced to 5 minutes of stage time. I don't even know why the kept the character around. You forget she's even in the show most of the time. I think they just wanted to keep the costumes and the weaving effect with the yellow fabric.

I think there is a YouTube Video of T.V. singing both of her cut songs. Unless it's been pulled it should still be out there.

The 1.0 show I was at the giant web was trying to come out of the large whole in the stage right wehn the Arachne and Spiderman fight was to begin. It got caught and you just saw stage hands all over the place trying to pull it out. After it was brought out a hold was called for a safety fault on the flying harness.
