InTheHeights2, hon, calm yourself.

I'm not perfect but I can assure you that I and a few others, at least, did not include Wicked on our lists for the reasons you ranted about. I honestly did fall asleep during the 2nd act when Elphaba takes out some book and does a belty solo. I kept slipping in and out of consciousness until that scene where she pops out of a trap door in the floor. I think that was the end.

Sorry. Not all people who did not find it to be the greatest show on earth are old fuddy duddies who fear change and are set in their ways; however, there are some people who feel insecure about what they like that they demand others feel the way they do. Ah, well.

@MyOhMy

Relax...I was just kidding. But seriously, you must have ADD or narcolepsy if you fell asleep during No Good Deed...geez! By the way, I never said it was the greatest show but it was entertaining and definitely NOT boring....30+ Million strong and still going.

@Muscle

Wow...is there anything you like? LOL

I admit WICKED isn't the best musical ever written, but how on earth can you say it's boring? There is just so much happening, and it is so interesting, the origins of the Wizard of Oz! Anyone who says WICKED is boring can go suck some foot.

Why do people take it personally when someone dislikes a show they adore? How does that affect your enjoyment AT ALL??

He's not wrong -- for him. Mamma Mia has been running for MUCH longer than Wicked -- doesn't make it GOOD. It just makes it popular. Are all popular people good? Of course not.

For what its worth, I'm not a fan of Wicked. (I don't hate it, either). I know many folks that (myself included) that loved it the first time, but then quickly saw its weaknessess upon addtional viewings. It's easy to be overwhelmed with the spectacle and get swept away.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

defyinggravity2:

From one of your posts:
And I can be telling him to shut up, because he has no right to be mean on this site to people he has never met before. Like I stated earlier, he believes his "Legend" status and 7 year old account give him the right to be superior to others, which it doesn't. He may have been here longer than many of us, but that still doesn't mean he is superior to the newer users like myself.

Your post on this thread:
Anyone who says WICKED is boring can go suck some foot.

Pot, meet kettle.

While Jordan may occasionally - to some people's thinking - cross the line a little, he is very knowledgeable and funny. He adds something to almost every thread he posts in. You should try and do the same.

@InTheHeights2, the two were "The Light in the Piazza" and "Passion".

I didn't list any boring shows before because I couldn't think of any. There are shows that I think are bad or poorly written or poorly directed. But I seldom find live theatre boring, even if it's bad. Then I remembered "Young Frankenstein", the only show I ever walked out on at intermission.

drammamama611 - I think people take it personally because some posters seem to think their opinion is is like "Gospel" and new posters don't know anything about theatre. Like you said, people have their own opinions and I believe there is no right or wrong in personal taste. I have to admit I find it amazing somebody could fall asleep during any musical no matter how boring if they are feeling well.

As for "Wicked", I really enjoyed it and my two twenty-something daughters loved it. By the way, Stephen Schwartz went to my HS(years before me). While people may disagree with how good a musical it is, I am surpised that some people would call it boring. Heck, the flying monkees alone should wake you up - lol

I have seen over 200 musicals on stage in the last 5 yrs. The only one I can say I was truly bored with:

God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater

Notre Dame de Paris - The only time I ever fell asleep during a show.

Young Frankenstein

I've never seen one of his shows, but I find many cast recordings of Michael John LaChiusa's scores (except for THE WILD PARTY, and I promise I haven't confused it with the Lippa version :P) incredibly, incredibly boring (e.g. HELLO AGAIN, LITTLE FISH, SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE).....I'm thinking about giving up with this man.

I'll admit I couldn't really get into the cast recording of Hello Again. It wasn't until I performed the show that I realized the genius behind it. There is a LOT of material not on the CD and the way the score works with the book is masterful.

ErinDillyFan, granted I've never seen a full production of GOD BLESS YOU, MR. ROSEWATER, but I really love that score. Maybe it doesn't work as well onstage.

After 50 years of watching theatre, my list would be endless. Certainly it would include CATS, SCARLET PIMP FROM HELL and DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES (even the loud sound design couldn't keep me awake during act one, and I was gone by act two), but the new champ, and the new Emperor's New Clothes of the decade is ONCE.

LOVEMUSIK - painful.

I found ONCE beautiful and moving. Haven't felt that much in the theater since NEXT TO NORMAL. It's so strange to hear that show dismissed.

Unpopular opinion, I think Evita is an absolute drag. Sure, some of the songs are nice, but ugh the story just doesn't move in the first half. The first time I ever saw the show, which was a Regional production, I was so excited b/c everyone seemed to love it, but unfortunately, it just did nothing for me. Also, judging by the Tony performance, I cannot IMAGINE what it's like sitting through 2 and a half hours of Elena Roger. I think I would see Jersey Boys before I'd see her, and I hate Jersey Boys. :P

Once: It was like I was watching the same scene over and over again, with the same song being sung over and over again.

Company: I enjoy 75% of the score, but just can't get into it.

Pippin: What the hell is that crap?

Smokey Joe's Cafe: Too bad I can't return my DVD.

Godspell: the music has its moments.

Camelot: I do like the show, but its toooooo long.

A Funny Thing Happen On The Way To The Forum: I don't think its funny, and is my least favourite Sondheim score.

Les Miserables: I just don't get it. I don't understand why its what it is.

My number one has to be SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. I appreciate and admire the show for what it is, but it is so incredibly boring to me. The last production was a snoozefest.
