Can anyone tell me if this is something worth doing. I am not from New York, but travel there often. I have seen many Broadway shows, but have never heard of this before. Does anyone know anything about it?

I hadn't heard of it before, but trip advisor has only glowing reviews. Sounds like it could be fun.

The glowing reviews on tripadvisor look suspicious. i doubt they're authentic.

I agree with morosco. I didn't go through all the reviews but everyone except a cpl of the first page were all first time reviews that any of these people have ever posted before.

It might be a great tour but take the reviews with a grain of salt.

Fan22 - I never heard of it either and if you take tour would be very interested in knowing what it was like. It is tough telling how things might be on tripadvisor because you never know if the "glowing" reviews are authentic. IMO - I believe reviews more if there is a mixture of good and bad. Recently got back from Europe and checked trip advisor on certain tours before we left. Overall, I thought they were pretty accurate but most of them had a mixture and not eveybody said the tours were wonderful.

I knew there was an article about this on BWW. It's by the ever noxious "Pati B" (That's what her theater pals call her), so take it with a grain of salt.

Hello fellow Broadway Lovers!

I came across your thread today and wanted to reply to this message board! My name is Tim Dolan and I'm the owner of the aforementioned tour in this thread: Broadway Up Close Walking Tours.

I wanted to address our Trip Advisor reviews: With the exception of two friends of mine who joined me on the tour who are performers, every other review is from a participant of our tour who I had never met until they joined us for that day's tour. I would love to think I have 118 friends who would sit down and write reviews, but frankly I don't have the time or energy to do it! Instead I let my tour-goers do that work for me! A lot of our tour-goers find us on Trip Advisor and take our tour based on the wonderful reviews we've received. After the tour I encourage them to follow-up with me and let me know what they thought as well as writing a review online. I like to think that because they had such a personal great time on our tour that they feel compelled to let others know via a review.

I normally don't do this, but since you are all Broadway lovers I would love to extend our tour free of charge to you specific individuals to show you what our tour is all about. If you are in NYC and have a spare two hours email me and let me know if you'd like to tag along on one of our tours. I spent many months crafting our one-of-a-kind stories and anecdotes so I think you'll find at least a few new stories to add to your Musical Theatre arsenal. You can email me at info@broadwayupclose.com and just mention your user name from this Message Board post and I will comp your tour.

For more information about our tour you can also visit our website: www.BroadwayUpClose.com.

I hope this helps clear things up and I hope to see all of you on our tour in the coming year! Happy theatre-going and happy New Year!

I came across this post and although it is quite old, I wanted to mention to you all that I did find this tour on playbill.com, read the tripadvisor reviews, and then booked the tour. I did the tour a couple weeks ago and in my own opinion, it was as great as the reviews indicate. The guide was very friendly and personable, and he certainly knew his stuff. For people who are interested in the history of broadway, or even the history of the city, I think you'll find this is a good way to spend a couple hours while you are in the city!
So I can definitely vouch for the authenticity of at least one of the tripadvisor reviews... my own!
