I want to underscore all of the points made by qolbinau. As I was reading his post I was thinking about the SISTER ACT Broadway recording dilemma with Menken, and then he mentioned it. I think the frequency/likelihood of cast recordings (in some form) is greater these days, but when a show is a consensus flop with critics and most audiences, then making the decision to record must be tough, financially speaking.

The other factor that came up here is also how the composer(s) feel about the work, usually post-closing -- as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and Lestat, and others... Composers and often theatrical producers hope a cast recording gets made to help promote future amateur and other professional productions.

Producers will announce tomorrow at 6pm that the last performance is May 6th. Unless they can raise $2-$3 million to keep the show running through Tony's. That's assuming they get a best musical nomination. If not, I guess they close immediately (which was implicit, not explicit) Leap Of Faith Previews
