She's going to have to steal the nod from Jan Maxwell, who I hear has it in her bag.

I hear no Tony bells for Patti. If she gets a nod it will be for being "Patti" and she won't win. She was a lethargic turd in that show.
WOTV is the little show that "could not."

I disagree, actually. The issue I had with the performances in WOTV was the material they were given, not with the actors themselves. Most of the roles, save Benanti's, were WRITTEN as lethargic turds. Pretty much all of the actors did the best they could with their sluggish, bland material (save the awful Nikka Graff Lanzarone, who apparently was cast only for her spitting resemblance to Rossy de Palma.)
Out of everyone in the cast, I would actually say LuPone rose the highest above her material (even couting Benanti, who did a great job with an already great role). She gave great vocal performances on her two songs, and turned the wispiest nothings of lines into laugh lines. I'm not saying she deserves to win, but I can understand her being nominated for a reason other than that she's Patti LuPone. In fact, I think her legend status actually hurt the way her performance was recieved: if she were any old character actress, she would have been seen as a scene-stealing revelation. But since she's Patti LuPone, critics and audiences expect a leading role and a plethora of bravura "diva moments", which is not how the part was written.
Piragua-you raise good and valid points. I just thought all the material was so offensively bad that I think I've stopped being objective.

I agree with Piragua and I actually think the comment about her being Patti LuPone affecting the way her performance was received has a lot of validity. I'd love to see her get nominated, since she did turn in a solid, funny performance. Plus, I do actually think there is something to already being nominated for the OCC and Drama Desk Awards.

Well the locks for nominations are James for MORMON, Clark for SISTER ACT and Benanti for WOMEN ON THE VERGE. That leaves Butler (CATCH ME), Osnes (ANYTHING GOES), LuPone (WOMEN ON THE VERGE), Rose Hemingway (HOW TO SUCCEED) and possibly Mindelle (SISTER ACT) to fight it out for those final two spots. I see it going to Osnes and possibly Mindelle if they love SISTER ACT as much as I think they might.

I would much rather Patti LuPone get a nomination over Kerry Butler, who I found annoying and grating in Catch Me...her big number was extremely well-sung but it was almost like she was overcompensating for lack of stage time by completely overacting.
I don't think that they'd give two of the slots in the category to Women on the Verge though, and if one of them is going to be nominated it's going to be Benanti.
Patti's big song was the best in the show, and she made it a terrific moment. She ought to be nominated. I know I'll be stoned for this, but I sort of liked her better than Laura Benanti.
