PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. I need some serious help. I have a benefit on Saturday for the Harvey Milk Postage Stamp. We are raising money to help get the stamp in his name. We are doing a "Please, Mr. Postman" Benefit and all of our songs are to be about the mail, letters, or postman etc etc. Anyone know of any fabulous songs (broadway or otherwize) about the industry? I prefer Broadway songs and are sung by woman. I already have Vanilla Ice Cream from Shel Loves me. Any suggestions?
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
Well, a large portion of the story in PASSION is told through letters, but I think you mean songs the subject of which is mail/post specifically, so this suggestion is probably of no help whatsoever.
I'll keep thinking.

it is for a talent/drag show benefit. And the songs and be done as Letters. Like one of the people is doing the song DEAR ME by Lorrie Morgan.

"I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter" (jazz standard)-great song-Michael Feinstein sang it in his "Power of Two" show with Cheyenne Jackson
Ones that most likely wouldn't work out of context: "The Speed Test" from Thoroughly Modern Millie. Not sure this would work for a concert...you kind of need a chorus of tap dancers. "Letter Song" from The Secret Garden
Oh what's that song from SMILE..."Dear Mom" I think...that might be funny if you're doing a drag show
"Dear Mr. Gable: You Made Me Love You"-sung by Judy Garland...also funny for a drag show

Also from She Loves Me, I Don't Know His Name could work.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Funny, I had the exact same reaction when I posted that song yesterday (as in "how did I not think of that sooner?").
Dunno how well it would go over with a drag queen singing it though. That was the problem with most of the songs I listed - likely inappropriate for the benefit.
Hope OP gets back to us to tell us what they used.
