Hello all. I found this on Playbill.com. I'm sooo thrilled it's making a stop in Dallas...only a couple of hundred miles away from Austin. RC in Austin, Texas
The Tony-nominated musical Xanadu is set to lace up its skates for a U.S. tour, which will officially launch in Costa Mesa, CA.
After charming Broadway critics in 2007, Xanadu made its West Coast premiere on Nov. 11, 2008 at the La Jolla Playhouse, later played a run at Chicago's Drury Lane Theatre in January of 2009 and an international engagement in Tokyo.
Xanadu will play in technical previews in Costa Mesa from Dec. 7-13, prior to officially beginning performances Dec. 14 through Dec. 27 at the OCPAC.
New tour dates follow:
Costa Mesa, CA (Dec. 7-27, at the OCPAC) Sacramento, CA (Dec. 28-Jan. 10, 2010 at California Musical Theatre) Portland, OR (Jan. 11-17, 2010 at the Keller Auditorium) Seattle, WA (Jan. 18-24 at the Paramount Theatre) Raleigh, NC (Jan. 25-31 at the Progress Energy Center) Providence, RI (Feb. 15-21, 2010 at the Providence PAC) Pittsburgh, PA (Feb. 22-28, 2010 at the Benedum Center) Cleveland, OH (March 1-14 at the Palace Theatre) Dallas, TX (April 5-11, 2010 at the Music Hall) Sarasota, FL (April 19-20, 2010 at the Van Wezel PA) Naples, FL (April 21-25, 2010 at the Naples Philharmonic) Orlando, FL (April 26-May 2, 2010 at the Bob Carr PAC) Wilmington, DE (May 3-9, 2010 at the Dupont Theatre)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Casting for the new tour has not been announced. Elizabeth Stanley and Max von Essen headlined the earlier road engagements, while Tony nominee Kerry Butler and Cheyenne Jackson originated the roles of Clio/Kira and Sonny on Broadway, respectively. The musical about a hunk, a muse and a trippy chalk drawing, boasts a book by Little Dog Laughed playwright Douglas Carter Beane and utilizes songs from John Farrar and Jeff Lynne's film soundtrack from the infamous 1980 flop film. Xanadu is directed by Christopher Ashley with choreography by Dan Knechtges.
The musical, according to press notes, "tells the story of one of the nine muses of ancient Greece who comes to earth to inspire the greatest of artistic achievements – a roller disco. Along the way she falls in love, bumps into an old acquaintance and for the first time, feels the desire to create herself."
The original creative team also includes scenic designer David Gallo, costume designer David Zinn, lighting designer Howell Binkley, sound designers T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella, projections designer Zachary Borovay, wig and hair designer Charles G. LaPointe and musical director Eric Stern.
Xanadu received four 2008 Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical.
The Xanadu cast recording is available on the PS Classics label.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
It's not a "new" tour. It's the same production that played La Jolla, Chicago, and Tokyo. Same tour, it's just been on hiatus. There will be some casting changes, though.
Seeing as it's re-starting in a short couple weeks now, does anyone know what the casting changes were? I know Joanna Glushak is with Young Frankenstein now...
^ I think so. It's part of the set, and pretty much a part of the show, so I can't imagine anywhere would not have it. CLEVELAND SPRING BREAK '10!!! Can't wait!
"You don't just stop posting horse s*** on the web!"-The [Title of Show] Show
We will be road tripping from Chicago to Cleveland. We LOVED (and saw the show) so many times that we felt a road trip was more than in order. Too bad it isn't stopping in say Milwaukee. But, the drive will be more than worth it.
Rant, Wickud, Rant, Wickud, Rant! We're not gonna pay Rant! 'Cause everythink is Wickud!
"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"
lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical
The principals are the same as they were in Chicago, but most of the supporting cast is different. Did all those changes happen before the tour went on hiatus?
I'm so exciting that "Xanadu" is making a stop here in the Lone Star State. Dallas is only 195 miles away from Austin. from RC in Austin, Texas B.T.W. Will all tour venues have stage seating?

The tour does have stage seating. I will be sitting on stage next friday!!
"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
The new cast is just that, new. The cast from La Jolla/Chicago was the same that went to La Jolla. So, yes Phyliss, the new cast members have joined during the hiatus. Updated On: 12/10/09 at 11:01 PM
