Any plans for an upcoming Broadway show?

Wilson: You know, I’m looking. I actually am going to do something in the spring for a very short while – I won’t go into it but I literally agreed to it about an hour ago. But yeah, I’m going to sing again in the spring, at least for a little bit. I’m trying to find something. This is the longest I’ve ever gone without doing a musical. It’s been like 11 years.

Does anyone have any info on this? The only thing I can think of is Cabaret (Cliff?). Unless he's doing an Encores production of some kind. Either way, it will be nice to hear him sing again. I'm not a fan of all of these horror movies he's been doing, but then again, I'm not a horror movie fan.

Cliff barely sings in Cabaret.

I just can't see him taking that part.

What else is opening this spring? It sounds like whatever it is is a limited run, so if not Cabaret, would it be an Encores production? Or something that hasn't been announced yet?

If it's Encores, it could be IRMA LA DOUCE (Nestor).

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Actually Patrick would be a very good choice to play Nestor in IRMA LA DOUCE.

As long as it's not CHICAGO.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

He never actually says he's doing a Broadway show; he just says "I'm going to sing again in the spring." Could be something like a couple of nights at 54 Below.

He could have literally agreed to sing all of Billy Bigelow's songs while taking his showers for all of April

I love him, though. Figuratively. Updated On: 9/14/13 at 11:27 PM

How ironic that a guy with long-established stage chops should only now have become a "star" and seen by millions of people because of those INSIDIOUS (more irony) horror movies.

I don't think those are examples of irony. Also, audiences know the names of stars. Nobody but musical fans know Patrick Wilson's name.

I don't know about nobody knowing Patrick Wilson. The horror and sci-fi world has him as a more recognizable star, with the lead roles in Insidious, The Conjuring and Watchmen.

He's a B-list star in Hollywood, which is higher than any typical Broadway success, barring people who either are film AND stage stars like Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Jackman, or TV and stage stars, like Lea Michele or Neil Patrick Harris.

(I didn't mention any premium content/cable/Netflix Original stars, because that would open an argument about whether this sort of new/elevated genre counts as film or tv.)

Because I really don't like him, and wonder how he on infuse to get work, I'm always curious when friends have seen movies he's in. After The Conjuring, I asked four different pals how Patrick Wilson was. They all said, "Who?"

Granted, not a random sample, but still.

I'm not especially a fan of Wilson's relatively bland vanilla persona, but I do maintain that more people know him now from shlocky horror movies than from the numerous more prestigious stage vehicles and movies (Little Children; even Phantom of the Opera) he has done. That's what I find -- yes -- ironic, but you can call it simply unexpected if you prefer: that the career he has ostensibly tried to build in one direction has taken a totally different turn. If he continues in this vein, he'll be known to millions for that screamfest genre.

I've asked. Younger people in my office know him as that "Insidous guy." They had never heard of hm before.

What about the "Guys and Dolls" concert at Carnegie Hall? A Google search reminded me that he was rumored by Riedel to play Sky in the last Broadway revival, so it seems plausible.

I don't see anything wrong with Patrick Wilson playing "Billy Flynn" in "Chicago." Actually, it's a good idea, since the guys who play the role are usually contracted for only a few weeks...10 weeks at the most (like the current Billy...Ryan Silverman).

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Patrick got a big career exclamation mark earlier in the year when his semi-controversial episode of "Girls" was featured in most zeitgeist blogs and entertainment news sites. This with 'Insidious" being number one this weekend, people are slowly hearing the name and making the connection.

Playing Billy Flynn in Chicago as a follow-up to such luminaries as Ryan Silverman (who?) and other has-beens and never-wases would be shooting his career in the foot. If you don't see a problem with him going from a $270 million box office hit to a tired revival a decade past its prime within a year, I sincerely hope no one looks to you for career advice.

Patrick Wilson may not be a recognizable name, but The Conjuring was a huge hit, and Insidious 2 is on its way. If he wants to come back to Broadway, he could do a lot better than Chicago.

He'd be ideal as Cliff in CABARET, but I don't know if that counts as a "short while" for him or not. Encores! or something like the GUYS & DOLLS concert seems to qualify under that a bit more. Regardless of what it is, I'm quite curious. I don't think audiences quite know who he is by name, but they'd definitely recognize him.

I suppose take it with a grain of salt for now, but Josh Groban just replied to a tweet of Patrick's and seems to be teasing that he might be doing the same show? Maybe?

Whatever he comes back in I just hope he shows some skin! He is a good actor but she shows his ass in almost everything he is in and god bless him for that!
